I’ve been working through a lot of crushes lately, but [name_u]Tally[/name_u] is one that’s captured my heart right now, so I figured I’d work on it for a bit. My sister has a [name_u]Tally[/name_u] name, although she doesn’t go by it very often, if at all (N@talie), so I thought a [name_u]Tally[/name_u] name might be a really nice way to honor her without being too confusing? Plus, I’ve loved [name_u]Tally[/name_u] for ages!
So far, my top two options are [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] ([name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], probably) and [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], but I’m also considering [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], maybe. I love the Hebrew origins with [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], as one of my dearest friends was a [name_m]French[/name_m] Jew, but I’ve always had a thing for spunky, darling [name_f]Tallula/name_f, and I’m crushing super hard on [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] right now. Initially, I’d thought [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] would be my way to get to [name_u]Tally[/name_u], but I haven’t fallen in love with a combo like I have with [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] or [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], so. I’d considered [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], but I don’t love it nearly so much with English characters as I do with Icelandic (Þalía [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]!), but obviously Þalía is super problematic in the United States, le sigh.
Anyway, what’s your favorite [name_u]Tally[/name_u] name? Between [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f], which do you prefer? And any amazing suggestions for a combo for [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] that might sway me to consider her?
When you say [name_u]Tally[/name_u]/[name_u]Tali[/name_u], are you pronouncing it with a short A like the phrase “tally the votes” or with a long A like in the word tall?
I see that your signature is full of Portuguese language names and a reference to [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] - are you Brazilian? My favorite [name_u]Tali[/name_u] name would be Talita, which, if you are Brazilian, I am sure you are plenty familiar with.
I do like [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallula[/name_f]/h (I prefer [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]), but I think [name_u]Tali[/name_u] can certainly stand on its own as well.
Between [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] wins for me (though I prefer the [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] spelling personally)! [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] is lovely too and I adore [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] but I also find it a bit of a tongue twister. [name_f]Talulla[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] has a nice ring to it, it’s gentle but bubbly and bright.
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is nice too but some others could be:
@beort12 - lol, I am not Brazilian, but thank you for the compliment! Brazilians are some of the nicest, friendliest, warmest people I’ve ever known, and I’m grateful to have so many Brazilians among my friends. I have close ties to [name_u]Brazil[/name_u], but yeah, I myself am not. I would’ve guessed Talita was a form of [name_f]Talia[/name_f] or [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], but it was a nice surprise to see it was the form of [name_f]Talitha[/name_f]! [name_m]How[/name_m] fun!
And for me, [name_u]Tally[/name_u] = “tally the votes”, but [name_u]Tali[/name_u] = tah-lee like “tall”.
@greyblue - thank you! I feel like [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] could flow better, but much like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], I’m not sure I can bring myself to count that against it. I’ve loved [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] for a very long time, but hesitated because my sister used to go by [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] a lot more than she does now, and I felt it was too close (plus, I wasn’t sure I was brave enough?). I like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] a lot, too (and [name_f]Talulla[/name_f]!), but I’ve found in the past couple days I’ve really fallen for the forms without the “H” on the end. I figure, [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] (and her many forms) are unfamiliar enough in the US anyway, so [name_f]Tallula[/name_f] wouldn’t be any more of a hassle than [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] would be? Maybe I’m crazy, but yeah lol. I love the feeling of [name_f]Tallula[/name_f]!
Are you pronouncing [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] as [name_u]Tal[/name_u]-ee-uh or Thal-ee-uh? For me, I would pronounce it the 2nd way, so nn [name_u]Tali[/name_u] isn’t as intuitive. I prefer [name_f]Talia[/name_f] if thats the pronunciation you’re going with. That said, both names are gorgeous.
I actually don’t love the sound of [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] because of the repeated “li” sound. I like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] better. I do love [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], but think it doesn’t work great right after [name_u]Tali[/name_u], [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_u]Tali[/name_u] or [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] would be better.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: [name_m]Just[/name_m] saw how youre pronouncing [name_u]Tali[/name_u] (tall-ee). This definitely makes [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] work better with it! Also, sounds like this is the combo you love, so I’d go for [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] if thats the one you love It honours important people in your life and you love it, so while the flow is not 100%, it’s certainly not bad, and definitely worth being flexible on!
@ashthedreamer in Portuguese the feminine diminutive it “inha” not “ita” like Spanish, so Talita, linguistically, doesn’t indicate any origination in another name. Additionally, a T or a Th sound the same in Portuguese, so they are used interchangeably. Talita and [name_f]Talitha[/name_f], [name_f]Talia[/name_f] and [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], [name_f]Tais[/name_f] and [name_f]Thais[/name_f], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Nathalia[/name_f], etc.
Ooh I’ve never thought of [name_u]Tally[/name_u]/[name_u]Tali[/name_u] as a nickname but I really like it! of your choices I looove [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]!
I don’t love [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] at all, so that would be out for me! [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] really runs together and is a bit of a tongue twister! I really love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and the nickname [name_u]Tally[/name_u] would really come naturally.
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is beautiful! It flows so well, both names are gorgeous, and I think the nn [name_f]Talli[/name_f] would work great.
I love [name_u]Tali[/name_u] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], especially with your chosen pronunciation. Very beautiful, though [name_u]Tali[/name_u] does seem a bit incomplete without a full name. If you are not Jewish, the full name might seem a little off with your background (just in my opinion). However, that does not diminish its beauty!
I prefer [name_f]Tallula[/name_f], actually, now that I think about it—it seems prettier than [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] (maybe because my mind always says tah-loo-LAH, with ah as in Adam).
