Tanith?

My husband really loves this name… one of the few that has sparked a strong reaction from him! I like it too, but I’m just not sure if it’s too “out there” & different. I’m sure our parents would give us the usual “I’ve never heard that name” reaction… along with the “look”. haha. But that’s why I don’t share much with them!

So I’m just curious… what are your thoughts on it?

I want to like it, but when I say it aloud I feel like I’m saying “[name]Tanis[/name]” with a lisp/cold! I usually have that problem with names ending in -th.

I’ve never heard of this before… and I don’t really care for it. Maybe it’s the fact that it’s unfamiliar, or maybe it’s the sound (I’m pronouncing it like tan and [name]Lilith[/name]) but I just don’t like it that much! Maybe [name]Tabitha[/name] is a good substitute.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

I have a cousin named this, in her late twenties.

I think she was named after the author [name]Tanith[/name] [name]Lee[/name], who I like as a writer.

I like [name]Elspeth[/name]/[name]Judith[/name]/[name]Lilith[/name] and -th names in general. And [name]Tegan[/name] is all right, too.

I didn’t think [name]Tanith[/name] was all that odd? It is [name]Tabitha[/name] I really love though.

I think it’s pretty cool! Another he may like is Cherith (“CHAIR-ith”), the name of a brook in the Bible.

I like it. It’s different, but not too out there.

It’s a bit lispy.

I like [name]Tanis[/name] ok, but then there’s always the possibility of young boys trying to make it rhyme with an unfortunate body part.

[name]Tabitha[/name] seems like a nice compromise. It’s lovely.

The name [name]Tanith[/name], alternative spelling of Tanit, is a Carthaginian lunar goddess of the Phoenician pantheon so it has an interesting history. It also has numerous literary connections. I think it would make a bold and interesting choice. I like it.

I agree that it sounds like [name]Tanis[/name] with a lisp.

I like just Tanit alone, though.

I love [name]Tanith[/name]! I think it’s beautiful.

I like it! Very unusual choice but [name]Gweneth[/name] & the like make it familiar enough.

It did make me think of [name]Tanis[/name] or [name]Tennis[/name] said with a lisp too.

All in all I think it’s unique but not too crazy.

I hear [name]Tanis[/name] with a speech impediment. Sorry.

i love it, it’s really cool yet accessible. i don’t think “[name]Tanis[/name] with a lisp” at all - i think of the author [name]Tanith[/name] [name]Lee[/name].
