Tansy?

Thanks to oliviasarah - I’m starting to like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]. It’s got the cute appeal of [name_f]Posy[/name_f], a really strong meaning (‘immortality’), and, it fits in with [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I just don’t know if it could work as a proper name - or what it could be a nickname for.

If it’s a proper name, I’d use;

[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]

This is a name I love but cannot get [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] Ragwort (an invasive toxic weed where I am from) out of my head! That said, it is a lovely golden flower – of the aster family I think – so I think the negative association is an isolated one.

In which case, I think it works great as a stand alone name. For a longer name, my mind immediately went to [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f], but why would you shorten [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]?

[name_f]Constance[/name_f]
Temprance

Names similar to this. Maybe [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], but I don’t particularly like that name. Use it as a proper name [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f] has a lovely sound to it.

Haha glad you like it! I love [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f].

I think it’s gorgeous, but it was also the name of my great Aunt’s dog and that association is too hard to shake for me. It’s the reason I love it and the reason I don’t.

I certainly wouldn’t use a longer form since it’s a flower name, although I like the idea of [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]. I don’t really know where Nameberry get some of these meanings from, but I can’t think why it would mean immortality since it’s a word name. It’s a lovely meaning nonetheless, but I don’t usually trust their database.

[name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] would be such cute sisters

I think the flower is a symbol for immortality, which could be why the naming’s listed as that. I personally love most flower meanings; [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - inspiration, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] - grace and elegance, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - faithfulness, etc. I’m just guessing that’s what it is though. [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] is starting to grow on me, but I’m not sure - since I’ve always liked [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] on a boy. I’m not sure I’m ready to give up [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] from my boys list!

I think [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] or [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are my favourites too, they seem to give it a more Victorian feel

Meh, I’m not really a fan. Despite the negative word associations with [name_f]Pansy[/name_f] (and possible insults there), I still like it better than [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], probably because I don’t like “T” names in general. Besides, I only have one association to it–there’s an annoying [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] on a TV show I used to love–and I can’t seem to get her out of my head. I do like the suggestion of [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], though.

I like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] as well, but definitely feel it needs a more substantial full name. I always assumed it would be [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], but I like the flower.

I was fond of combo [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]: wise protector, immortal. Pretty powerful yet still very feminine.

And the flowers are cute.

I would consider it as a nickname for [name_f]Tacita[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Tacy[/name_f] or Cita makes more sense for that.

I love [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] - and oliviasarah’s [name_f]Thomasina[/name_f] suggestion made me think of [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] as a full name for [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]. Or [name_f]Tania[/name_f]?

@appellation_addict - I’m not crazy about [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] or [name_f]Tania[/name_f] tbh. [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] vetoes [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] for a boy, and, I knew a [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] I’m not fond of, and I know a [name_f]Tanya[/name_f] I’m not wildly keen about either  I think if I use it, I’d just flat out use [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], because, as oliviasarah pointed out, it is a flower name, and I think giving flower names as NNs takes away from what the flower symbolizes

[name_f]Thomasin[/name_f] is my favourite of the female [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]- names.

[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] is very nice too!

Sorry, I missed that you didn’t want a nickname for it.

I understand that - I don’t think [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] nor [name_f]Lily[/name_f] need nicknames and they’re no longer.

I only just finalized my thoughts on the nickname thing  I agree there - much the same with [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] with me too. Daisies stand for innocence - however [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] means ‘pearl’. Naming your baby [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and giving her the nickname [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] sort of (imo) takes away from the symbolism behind Daisies.

Meanings are really important to me so it gives me a special appreciation of [name_f]Tansy[/name_f]

If you like cute girly names (like [name_f]Kylie[/name_f]) but want something more unique [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] fits the bill. It has a kind of vintage feel
to it. I collect antique Valentines and I could imagine that name on one of them.

I’ve never heard of [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] before, but now I love it!
I agree that making it a nickname takes away its meaning. And I love that it means immortal!
From your combo suggestions I like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] the best. Flowery, vintage and classical!

I like it. I agree its pretty like [name_f]Posy[/name_f] and fits with the other flower names. I always thought [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] was an edible herb?
It reminds me of [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] which is getting quite popular here in the UK ([name_m]David[/name_m] [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] has a [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] I think) but I find a bit fusty. [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] is definitely an improvement.

I know a [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] she’s about five.
I like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] the most

I know a [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] she’s about five.
I like [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] the most

sadly not that keen either. With your other floral names, [name_f]Pansy[/name_f] seems more obvious than [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], if I heard “[name_f]Tansy[/name_f]” I would think you said [name_f]Pansy[/name_f].

The only time I have ever heard [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] used it was pronounced tan-see, rhyme with [name_f]Nancy[/name_f]. There was no Z sound like in [name_f]Pansy[/name_f], so for me they would not get confused.

[name_f]Tansy[/name_f] was the name of one of the daughters on the HBO show Big [name_f]Love[/name_f]. I honestly thought they were always calling her Teensy because I didn’t know [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] was a name (or flower) until I looked it up. It will always have that association with me, and I am not really a fan.
