Tara vs. Mia

Hello fellow berries,

We like both [name_f]Tara[/name_f] and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] for our baby girl. Which one do you like?

Thanks

I like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] the best.

I also prefer [name_f]Mia[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Tara[/name_f] is a little bit dated - the youngest [name_f]Tara[/name_f] I’ve met is my age - but [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is very common right now, so personally I’d opt for [name_f]Tara[/name_f] anyway.

I would only choose [name_f]Tara[/name_f] since [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is too popular for my taste.
[name_f]Tara[/name_f] is a name I never cared for. No offense. I much prefer [name_u]Tora[/name_u], [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], [name_f]Tova[/name_f], and [name_f]Maura[/name_f].

I’ve always loved [name_f]Tara[/name_f]. It sounds strong yet feminine and gentle (if that makes sense), while pronounced tah-rah it takes on an exotic sound. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] doesn’t sound as original these days as [name_f]Tara[/name_f] would. I dislike how the only references I have for the name [name_f]Mia[/name_f] are a number of rather indistinct little girls (I’m a teacher), and [name_f]Mia[/name_f] Farrow. Of course “mia” is a word name in [name_f]Italy[/name_f] and Spain, so it falls along the same lines as the name [name_f]Elle[/name_f], for me. I’ve only known 3 girls/women named [name_f]Tara[/name_f] (one was “tah-rah”), and they are all beautiful with lovely personalities. [name_f]Tara[/name_f] is a classic name that would be surprising and refreshing on a little girl now.

Another vote for [name_f]Mia[/name_f]

Agree 200% with this post.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] feels a bit boring to me. It’s not a bad name, but just very bland these days.

[name_f]Tara[/name_f] is one which I have a huge soft spot for, I just think it’s lovely with a rich history. I know it can come off as a little dated (I’ve never met a [name_f]Tara[/name_f] of any age) but I think it’s so pretty sounding.

Thanks all. We really appreciate your comments. We’re leaning more towards [name_f]Tara[/name_f], but I was a bit concerned that it is not a popular name currently in US now. We’ve Indian heritage (from the country India) origin and wanted a name that sounds perfect for both cultures. If you’ve any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] for sure!

You might like these, which are a bit more up to date with a similar feel to [name_f]Mia[/name_f]/[name_f]Tara[/name_f];
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] / [name_f]Eva[/name_f] / [name_f]Eve[/name_f]

[name_f]Maia[/name_f] / [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Nia[/name_f]

Those are all fairly popular still, at least statistically, in the US.

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names! I picture a [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and a [name_f]Tara[/name_f] to be very different people, so I would wait until your daughter is in your arms and then see if she is a [name_f]Mia[/name_f] or a [name_f]Tara[/name_f] or a different name altogether.

[name_f]Tara[/name_f] by far.

I prefer [name_f]Tara[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Mia[/name_f], but it has been incredibly popular in the last decade.

I also suggest [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f]. They are both [name_f]Indian[/name_f] and Western names, like [name_f]Tara[/name_f].

I like @lumen’s suggestions above. If it was just [name_f]Mia[/name_f] vs [name_f]Tara[/name_f] I’d vote for [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I know it’s super popular, but I like the sound of it and it is current, whereas [name_f]Tara[/name_f] feels very dated to me - an '80s-'90s name (plus I’ve just never really liked it myself).

I really, really like [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it is popular, it doesn’t feel overused - at all, actually. Which is good, because this indicates a strong, timeless name. I’m not so sure about [name_f]Tara[/name_f] though, which sounds quite dated. It doesn’t seem as fresh and lovely as [name_f]Mia[/name_f].

I would probably pick [name_f]Tara[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. She’s sweet, pretty - but there are so many of them out there!

[name_f]Tara[/name_f] is spunky, different, and plus I love -ara names so I this would definitely be my choice!

I love [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] is one of my very favorite names. You could name her [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Mia[/name_f]… But I like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] alone.

[name_f]Tara[/name_f] is considered rather dated in the U.S., and I know I personally wouldn’t like to have a name that only people from older generations have. I like [name_f]Mia[/name_f] a lot better. I don’t think popularity is such a huge deal.
