Tara

I’m having a big name crush on [name]Tara[/name] right now! [name]Do[/name] you know any Taras? What are their middle names? [name]Do[/name] you also like [name]Tara[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think [name]Tara[/name] works as a nickname for [name]Demetra[/name]?

I love the name [name]Tara[/name]! But that may be just because it’s my name:) My middle name is [name]Kristine[/name], after my mother. I really like the name [name]Demetra[/name], but I don’t know how well the nickname [name]Tara[/name] would work for that, it would be like adding an unnecessary syllable. I know that if I had a [name]Demetra[/name], I’d end up calling her [name]Demi[/name]. But then again, I’ve heard lots weirder nicknames, my brother’s name is [name]Jordan[/name] and we call him [name]George[/name] all the time. It’s really your choice if you wanna call her [name]Tara[/name] when it comes down to it.

I’m not a fan of [name]Tara[/name], sorry. I do love a lot of -ara- names ([name]Arabella[/name], [name]Cara[/name], [name]Sarah[/name], etc.), but [name]Tara[/name] feels quite dated to me. I did know a very cool [name]Tara[/name] a year ahead of me in high school. I don’t really know what her MN was, though… I wouldn’t use [name]Tara[/name] as a nn for [name]Demetra[/name], but I think it definitely could work.

Good luck!

I’m also a [name]Tara[/name], so I’m a little biased. My middle name is [name]Lee[/name] after my mother. I’m not sure how well [name]Tara[/name] works for a nn to [name]Demetra[/name], I agree with pp that [name]Demi[/name] would be the natural assumption from me… but I could definitely see it working if you want it to.

[name]Tara[/name] for [name]Demetra[/name] was a whim of mine really; I don’t mind [name]Demi[/name] but I was musing over [name]Tara[/name] when [name]Demetra[/name] popped into my head and I went, well, what if?

I know a ton of [name]Tara[/name]'s. I’m 30 and it seems like there were 10 in my highschool…I think because of that association it seems strange for me to think of it as a baby name in 2012. It feels dated to me.

I’m with blairtherese - I know lots of Taras but they’re all in their 30s. I do think it’s a beautiful name, but strikes me as a little dated. Of course, I do love the association with Gone With the Wind.

I know [name]Tara[/name] was rather popular in the 70’s (?) and probably is dated nowadays but since my hypothetical [name]Tara[/name] is a decade away, I can ignore that. Also, I’ve never gotten into Gone With the Wind, but it’s not a bad association either (probably better than [name]Scarlett[/name] at any rate)

OH! My nickname is [name]Scarlet[/name]. [name]Tara[/name]. [name]Scarlett[/name]. Gone With the Wind…naming my future-maybe daughter [name]Tara[/name], a subtle allusion to myself?

I know a [name]Tara[/name], and she’s really nice. I have no idea what her middle name is, though. I think it’s a fine name, but it feels a bit dated to me (the [name]Tara[/name] I know is an adult with a child of her own).

my name is [name]Tara[/name] [name]Lynn[/name]. i rarely met other [name]Tara[/name]'s- i think i came after the name had it’s moment in the 70’s. a friend of mine has a niece in kindergarten who had a friend named [name]Tara[/name] and it made me happy to think of the name on someone so young. i think it’s different from the other -ara names somehow. i think of a [name]Tara[/name] as less serious than a [name]Sara[/name] or a [name]Cara[/name].

I know two Taras, both are 19/20. [name]One[/name]'s middle name’s [name]May[/name], and the other’s something Turkish that I can’t remember (family heritage) but it’s quite long.

I think [name]Tara[/name] [name]Reid[/name] has forever associated the name with tacky for me. It’s a cute and spunky name though. [name]How[/name] bout [name]Tessa[/name] instead?

Cheers!

My best friend is a [name]Tara[/name] and her middle name is [name]Nicole[/name]. It does feel like a “70s” name to me, but I love the sound and I love my friend, so good associations all around.

I think [name]Tessa[/name] is cute but it feels incomplete to me. Besides, I have a friend who goes by [name]Tess[/name], so I wouldn’t use her name. I’m still on my [name]Tara[/name] kick!

I only know two Taras, one is a preteen and the other is in her thirties. I like it as a name but it doesn’t feel “special” to me

My mother is a [name]Tara[/name]. She was named after the land in Gone with the Wind. I didn’t realize it was big in the 70s; my mother beat that trend by two decades, which is funny because the exact thing happened with my name.

What about [name]Taryn[/name]? I knew one [name]Tara[/name] (middle name [name]Lee[/name] - boring!) and two [name]Taryn[/name]'s. Not sure of their middle names though… [name]Tara[/name] is a sweet name, but if you are looking for something different, my suggestion is [name]Taryn[/name].

[name]Taryn[/name]? My first thought is The [name]Black[/name] Cauldron, wasn’t that the boy’s name? I looked it up and it was actually [name]Taran[/name] but neither really appeal to me. [name]Tara[/name]'s more classic and feminine to me, while [name]Taryn[/name] feels like it should be a boy’s name. I’m not really looking for anything different, just to share my new name obsession with others!

My name is [name]Tara[/name] [name]Allyn[/name] (and my dad did name me after Gone with the Wind). And I’m 29. I’ve only met a couple of other Taras…it’s definitely not a name you hear very often. It may be slightly dated, but it could definitely make a comeback!

I knew a girl named [name]Tara[/name] when I played soccer. She was great. Very pretty, and quite the funny one.
Her close friend was [name]Sheridan[/name].
