Tarragon

As DH is having a hard time finding boy names he likes, I’ve been searching for some that are similar to the ones he’s okay with: [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u].

I’ve stumbled across [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] which has a similar sort of structure to it and is also a nature/plant name (a bonus for me!). It’s listed here as a girl’s name but I think it works better for a boy. I know it’s a bit unusual so do you guys think it’s useable as a first name?

[name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] is a new one for me, but I am really liking it! It has a nice meaning, it’s a herb which means it’s a nature name which I really love. The sound isn’t that far off from other names, like [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] was one similar sounding name I thought of. I’m guessing the [name_f]Tarra[/name_f]- part is why it’s listed as feminine on here? I think it could work just as well on a boy, the ending is especially masculine sounding. I love the idea of [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] nn Tarran!

So from those somewhat jumbled up thoughts I’d conclude that yes, in my opinion [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] is usable and completely wonderful for a boys name!

All the best with whatever you decide on.

I’m sorry but I don’t think this is a usable name for a boy or a girl.

I’m sorry, but I’m of the same opinion as @foreverharriet.

Not a fan. I do love [name_u]Sage[/name_u].

Sorry, I personally do not see it as a usable first name for either gender.

some ideas:

[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_f]Tarin[/name_f]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_u]Tiernan[/name_u]
[name_m]Sean[/name_m]

I love nature/tree/food names but this one doesn’t do it for me either.

I like Tarron!

Have you considered [name_m]Basil[/name_m]?

I don’t think it’s usable, sorry.

I think the key is to figure out what your husband likes about [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], and go from there. I say that because, to me, [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] is nothing at all like either [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] or [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. It shares a T with [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and has the same number of syllables as [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], but other than sort of structurally, I wouldn’t put them in the same category. [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] are both classic-sounding, masculine, buttoned-up sorts of names. [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f], being a rare nature name, is sort of free-spirited, and is also traditionally feminine (as traditional as a rare name goes). I would be surprised if your husband likes [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] - but you know him better than I do, so maybe I’m wrong! So that’s why I’d advise you to figure out - or just ask him! - what it is he likes about [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. It would probably help him in his efforts to make his own list, as well as you in trying to come together on a choice.

Hmm, I’m not a fan of [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f]. To me it sounds like something a dragon/character in a fantasy movie would be named.

I agree with this, but I was thinking tyrannical ruler in a fantasy series.

[name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] is an ingredient I use often in cooking. Some food names do lend themselves as given names eg [name_u]Pepper[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], even [name_f]Plum[/name_f] for a girl, but I don’t think this one works.

I suggest Tarrant.

not that much of a fan, a suggestion could be Torrent? or, [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_f]Tarragon[/name_f] if you’re really into the name.
