We are expecting early [name]August[/name], and as the title implies we are waiting till birth to find out girl or boy:) It didn’t take long for us to agree upon a favorite boy name - [name]Edmund[/name] [name]James[/name]. However, we are stuck on finding a girls name we both are in love with. Hoping to use the middle name [name]Olive[/name] after DH grandmother.
We have found four names we do both love and agree on, but something holds me back from being able to commit to any one of them.
these are our four names we both like:
[name]Sienna[/name] (worry about the minivan association)
[name]Quinn[/name] (the debates on this unisex name has me a little nervous about using it)
[name]Violet[/name] (doesn’t sound nice with our top middle name pick [name]Olive[/name])
[name]Daphne[/name] (too scooby doo? a few people i mention the name to immediately respond with that)
I’m a fan of names that sound pretty but are not overly popular - My favorite names (DH won’t budge on) - [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Vera[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Willa[/name]

[name]Sienna[/name]- I know a teenaged [name]Sienna[/name] who has never had people say, “Like the car?” I don’t think the association is strong enough OR negative.
[name]Quinn[/name]- Personally NMS, but I think it works well on a girl.
[name]Violet[/name]- I agree, I’d stay away from [name]Violet[/name] [name]Olive[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name]- I don’t immediately think of Scooby Doo, but many will.
Here are some suggestions if you rule out all of these:
Of your choices, [name]Quinn[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] work best with [name]Olive[/name]. [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], or [name]Matilda[/name] would all be wonderful, but if your hubs ain’t having it, what can you do? [name]Agnes[/name] [name]Olive[/name]… perfection!
I wouldn’t even think of the mini van til you said it. It’s not like you’ve chosen [name]Jetta[/name] or [name]Camry[/name]. [name]Sienna[/name] [name]Olive[/name] is cute.
[name]Olive[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] flows better than [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Olive[/name], unless your last name is one syllable.
I’d stay away from two color names unless you like that connection.
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Olive[/name]- I do think Scooby Doo, but I don’t find that to be a negative thing.
[name]How[/name] bout [name]Sierra[/name] [name]Olive[/name] or [name]Vienna[/name] [name]Olive[/name] if you can’t commit to [name]Sienna[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name] [name]Olive[/name] with nn [name]Quinn[/name]? I think of [name]Quinn[/name] being more feminine anyways
[name]Camilla[/name] [name]Olive[/name] - some same sounds as [name]Amelia[/name]
My favorite is [name]Violet[/name] from your list. I love [name]Violet[/name]! [name]Violet[/name] [name]Olive[/name] isn’t great, but [name]Violet[/name] [name]Olivia[/name] is pretty!
Have you considered [name]Olive[/name] as a first name? I like it best out of your choices. I love [name]Violet[/name]- but not with [name]Olive[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] is definitely my favorite of those. Scooby Doo isn’t the worst reference ever. And may not even be as big a thing by the time she’s school age.
The Scooby Doo thing wouldn’t phase me at all. I love [name]Daphne[/name]. Unless you are named [name]Velma[/name] or your husband is [name]Fred[/name], Shaggy, or Scooby, it wouldn’t bother me. I also like [name]Violet[/name] and [name]Sienna[/name] but don’t think they go with [name]Olive[/name]. [name]Sienna[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Olive[/name] are all colors, which might bother some. [name]Olive[/name] would also be cute as a first name. I also like [name]Quinn[/name].

I love [name]Violet[/name] the most (it’s my daughter’s name!) but [name]Daphne[/name] is also amazing. I don’t think it’s too Scooby Doo at all, and if it was I think [name]Daphne[/name] from Scooby Doo is an awesome namesake. [name]Daphne[/name] is classy and sophisticated with a good mix of extravagance and simplicity. [name]Sienna[/name] is also pretty but doesn’t have as much substance as [name]Violet[/name] or [name]Daphne[/name]. [name]Quinn[/name] just doesn’t appeal to me. So long story short, my vote is for [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Olive[/name] but you really can’t go wrong with [name]Violet[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], or [name]Sienna[/name]. Good luck!
I like [name]Daphne[/name] [name]Olive[/name] the best. I don’t think everyone would make the scooby doo connection. [name]Sienna[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] are NMS. Also you are right, [name]Violet[/name] [name]Olive[/name] is not a good idea.
[name]Sienna[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name]. I love [name]Quinn[/name], but I think I pprefer it as a mn, and [name]Violet[/name]… definitely a colour name, I love it but not with [name]Olive[/name]. [name]Sienna[/name] is also a colour, I know, but at least it’s less obvious (than [name]Violet[/name]). Inever thought about minivan, [name]Sienna[/name]/[name]Siena[/name] makes me think about Italian city.
I have to admit, I am extremely partial to [name]Quinn[/name] on a girl. [name]Quinn[/name] [name]Olive[/name] doesn’t sound quite right though, [name]Olive[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] sounds better, or even [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]? (which could still honour your DH’s grandmother)
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment everyone! Amazingly helpful, i feel like we have some new ideas and opinions without having to start from scratch totally. Counteracts some of the horribly negative feedback i have had from family members on these four names (should have listened to DH and not mentioned our preferences to a soul). Yeah we would never do [name]Violet[/name] [name]Olive[/name], we would likely do [name]Violet[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Lucille[/name] (family name from my side) if it came down to it and just save [name]Olive[/name] (or oliver) for future offspring.
Some lovely names are here, some that DH has been suggesting but haven’t given full consideration to until i read them here (ha terrible I know). Like [name]Vanessa[/name], [name]Camilla[/name] (love nn [name]Cam[/name]), [name]Edith[/name]… and he has been really loving [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Quinn[/name] as the above poster mentioned, i just was avoiding it bc of the popularity but i am starting to make that less of a big deal now.

[name]Violet[/name] [name]Olive[/name]- I agree with your comment on this one. I’d suggest a little more modern first name, if you go with the middle name [name]Olive[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] [name]Olive[/name]- Ehh… It’s ALRIGHT but just that. I don’t normally think of Scooby-Doo when i hear it so if you want to use it, I’d say go right ahead
