Team Green!

Hi everyone, we are expecting our third baby and will not be finding out gender this time. Luckily for us, our first two children are boys. Naming boys always came easy to us. We could never agree on girls names (even for our first two).
But, because we aren’t finding out the gender this time we need to come to an agreement on a girls name.

Our son’s names are Clive Donald Scott and Ford Alexander. We are trying to find a girl name that fits with their names and would love everyone’s opinions on the following girl names we have picked out:

Alcott Jacquelene, Tanner Jay, and Walker Elisabeth

*Edit to add: All of our kids’ middle names have meaning. Clive’s middle names are after my Mom (Dawn) and my partner’s mom (maiden name Scott) and Ford’s middle name is after me (Alexandra). Jacquelene is after my partner’s grandmother who passed away, Jay is my father in law’s name, and Elisabeth is a common MN in my partner’s family for girls.
We chose Clive’s name because we like one syllable boys names. It just so happened that it was an Old English, geography name (dweller by the cliff). So we used that same theme to name Ford. One syllable, old english, meaning dweller by the river crossing. We aren’t particular to one syllable girls names but LOVE Alcott because it is Old English and means dweller at the old cottage.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite of your options is [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] Jacquelene. [name_u]Tanner[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] reads completely masculine to me and I like [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] but not really fond of [name_u]Walker[/name_u].
Maybe you would like [name_u]Palmer[/name_u], [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] or [name_u]Parker[/name_u]?

I agree with whatchamacallit. I think [name_u]Tanner[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] is a very masculine name. [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is also quite masculine in my mind.

I like [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] Jacquelene, and I think it goes nicely with your boys’ names.

It seems like you guys like names that aren’t inherently gendered, which I can get behind. I think that there are plenty of names that achieve this that you could use for a little girl (e.g. [name_u]Sage[/name_u], Skye), but [name_u]Walker[/name_u] and [name_u]Tanner[/name_u] [name_u]Jay[/name_u] seem inherently masculine to me.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] an opinion though  The most important thing is that it is something you feel good about!

I actually really like all three of your girl names. They seem classic yet modern which fits well with your boy names. I like the masculine feel for girl names as well.

Congratulations! My favorite of your options is Alcott. Tanner and Walker read very masculine to me, especially as they fit so seamlessly w/your boys’ names. Alcott fits very well, too, but it seems more like a girls’ name because of Louisa May. It’s sweet and also has a very modern, “cool girl” feel to me. Other ideas if you want them:
Adair
Blythe
Holland
Rowan
Tamsin

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! Congratulations on baby #3! Honestly, I find your choices a bit unexpected when compared to your sons’ names. I thought maybe some were family names, but overall, they seem very masculine. For [name_m]Clive[/name_m] and Ford’s sister, I would expect a name with history and strength.

These come to mind:
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] “Libby, Betty”
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

For a unisex name, I suggest:
[name_u]Monroe[/name_u]
[name_u]Greer[/name_u]
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]
[name_u]Reese[/name_u]

I really love Alcott!! The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Women/Louisa [name_f]May[/name_f] [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] association is great and I like the possibilities of nns [name_u]Allie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] if she wants one!!

[name_u]Alcott[/name_u] Jacquelene is sweet but I’d love [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] Elisabeth!!

A couple of suggestions (if you want them)

[name_f]Eudora[/name_f]
[name_u]Auden[/name_u]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_u]Palmer[/name_u]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Poe[/name_u]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]
[name_u]Mirren[/name_u]
[name_u]Amory[/name_u]
[name_u]Merritt[/name_u]

Alcott is a glorious first name on a girl!! Alcott Elisabeth would be my pick out of all those names.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your list! And your boys have the cutest names!

[name_u]Alcott[/name_u] Jacquelene is great!
[name_m]Can[/name_m] I also suggest Jacquelene nn Jack/Jackie as a first name? It keeps the unisex name that u like, while also honoring his grandmother.

Other ideas:
[name_u]Atwood[/name_u] nn [name_f]Attie[/name_f]
[name_u]Sinclair[/name_u]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m] nn [name_f]Esty[/name_f]
[name_u]Perry[/name_u]
[name_u]Greer[/name_u]

I absolutely love [name_u]Walker[/name_u] and [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] !

I’m joining the love [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] chorus! It is so unexpected and fun, and perfect with your boys’ names. It also sounds like you really love it, which is the ultimate aspect.

Oh I adore [name_u]Alcott[/name_u]! I love the soft vowels with the distinct consonants. It has a cottage core feel to me, which I love. So pretty! And it goes perfectly with [name_m]Clive[/name_m] and [name_m]Ford[/name_m].

I agree with others about [name_u]Tanner[/name_u] and especially [name_u]Walker[/name_u]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the feminine middle, I just can’t see either working on a girl. Both would be great on a boy though! What are you considering if baby #3 is a boy?

@catieQ

If it’s a boy we’re torn between [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] and [name_m]Slade[/name_m].
Middle names will be [name_u]Daryl[/name_u] [name_u]Jack[/name_u]. [name_u]Daryl[/name_u] after my [name_u]Nana[/name_u] (her name is Daryl) and [name_u]Jack[/name_u] after my husband’s grandmother, [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f].

Playing off of [name_u]Daryl[/name_u] would you consider [name_u]Dale[/name_u]? It is also old [name_f]English[/name_f] and means valley, or one who lives in the valley, its gender neutral and fairly uncommon. I think [name_u]Dale[/name_u] Jacquelene could be cute!

[name_u]Tanner[/name_u] and [name_u]Walker[/name_u] both feel heavily masculine to me, so by default my favorite of your combos is [name_u]Alcott[/name_u]. I think the nn [name_f]Ally[/name_f] could be nice as well

With all of those first names I would expect to encounter three boys when taking your older boys’ names into account. That’s not a problem of course unless it would bother you!

Personally I would go for something a little more feminine, also because your boys have such clearly masculine names, a name along the lines of [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] or [name_u]Reagan[/name_u].

Oh nice, I really love [name_u]Shaw[/name_u]! Works great with [name_m]Clive[/name_m] and [name_m]Ford[/name_m]

I find Walker and Tanner much too masculine but I quite like Alcott, likely because of the literary connection (and because of its meaning in relation to your sons’ names). I love a good literary name and this is quite an unexpected one. Alcott Jacqueline works very well.

Here are some other ideas for Clive and Ford’s potential sister:

Marlowe
Scout
Frances ‘Frankie’
Darcy
Ottilie
Etta
Maeve
Thea
Beatrix
Astrid
Sullivan ‘Sully’
Della
Eloise
Willa
August/a
June
Hadley
Lowell
Adair
Henrietta
Billie
Margot
Olive
Nell
Flynn
Aurora ‘Rory’
Kit
Theodora ‘Theo’, ‘Teddy’
Leni
Quinn
Primrose
Harriet
Sutton

I’ve included a combination of unisex names (including some I see as exclusively boys’ names but that perhaps you may like for a girl), literary names and others that I think would be lovely with your sons’ names.

I’m not a fan of [name_u]Tanner[/name_u] or [name_u]Walker[/name_u] for a girl. [name_u]Alcott[/name_u] if fine. I’ve listed some other names you might want to consider… with their meanings. I prefer [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] for a middle name

ClivE, F0rd and….
[name_u]Alcott[/name_u]. Dweller of the cottage
[name_u]Blaire[/name_u]. Dweller of the plaine
[name_u]Sloane[/name_u]. [name_m]Raider[/name_m]
[name_u]Sutton[/name_u]. From the southern homestead
[name_u]Harper[/name_u]. [name_m]Harp[/name_m] player
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u]. [name_m]Field[/name_m] of heather
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]. [name_f]Valley[/name_f] of the Eagles
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. [name_f]Elf[/name_f] ruler
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f]. [name_m]Hill[/name_m]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]. Dark challenger
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]. [name_m]Benevolent[/name_m]
[name_u]Tatum[/name_u]. Tate’s homestead
[name_u]Yardley[/name_u]. [name_m]Wood[/name_m] clearing

For a boy, I’d like the name Sh@w D@ryl J@ck(son). Depending on how the whole name sounds withe the last name you might want to add SON to [name_u]Jack[/name_u] if it makes the name flow better.

Congrats!

We were always team green and super struggled with girl names. I think like you, mostly because I preferred more masculine names.

Personally, from your list, [name_u]Walker[/name_u] is my fav! I love that name! But with your sibset and the meanings, my vote is for [name_u]Alcott[/name_u]- a perfect fit!
