DH and I have gone back and forth on names for our son. We’ve known very early on that our daughter would be [name_u]Winter[/name_u], his preference. [name_m]Just[/name_m] so you have background on DS’s sister.
Our last name is Brack, my name is [name_f]Tiana[/name_f] and his name is [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]. He came up with [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a combination between the both of our names, and his mothers love for [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] Pendergrass. I feel slightly compelled to go with [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] because DH is a junior, though due to his relationship with Sr. he doesn’t want to continue the name. My issues, outside of a slough of other names, are that [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is cute, until it’s not. It works until you’re in high school, then doesn’t work again until you’re an old man. As far as I’m concerned. That and I’m a fan of balance, if he’s partially naming our son after someone his mom loves, when do my moms interests get incorporated? That may be juvenile of me but moms aside the rest stands.
I should also note that DH is [name_m]Eddie[/name_m], not short for anything, just [name_m]Eddie[/name_m].
I suppose my ask is, would [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] get by in the world with this name or what might an alternative be? I feel slightly entitled to name our son considering I had little say in our daughters name.
I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is pretty childish and it doesn’t really fit with [name_u]Winter[/name_u]. I think that he might get bullied about his name because it’s reminiscent of a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] (Especially with the last name). Maybe [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] instead?
I agree, it certainly doesn’t help that mom and dad are both on the plumper side so the odds of that happening for him are fairly likely. I’m a big advocate for [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] actually, it’s my grandpa’s name, but he just won’t budge.
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]?
Honestly though our 26th president went by [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], I know it’s a nn but I feel like because of this a older person can pull the name off, people may even assume it’s just a nn regardless.
I do agree it sounds odd with [name_u]Winter[/name_u] and feel you should have more input in the naming of your child.
Agree that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would be my pick. [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] by itself doesn’t give as many options if he wants to go by something else as he grows up. Also like [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]. Hmm…alternatives/variations on [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]/[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]: [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Eamon[/name_m], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]. What about something like [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]?
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] or [name_m]Edward[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would be my preference.
Also really like the suggestion of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
I love [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] too but hubby vetoed so I feel your pain!
I think other people’s suggestions of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]’ is a good solution, though i do think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] works as a full name fine. That said, if you’re not comfortable with it, it probably isn’t quite the right choice.
[name_u]Toby[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m]/[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]’
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]’
[name_u]Dean[/name_u] (taken from the sounds and letters of [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] and [name_f]Tiana[/name_f] together)
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] ‘[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]’ ([name_u]Tristan[/name_u] could be a nod to you too)
Alternatively, are there any names you like or would like to incorporate?
I love greyblue’s suggestion of [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and [name_u]Winter[/name_u] sound wonderful together! [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] and then something relating to your side of the family for the mn perhaps?
When he’s older he can go by Ted.
I like [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]
[name_u]Billy[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]
[name_u]Alfie[/name_u]
[name_u]Danny[/name_u]
They give me the same feeling as [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
I loooove [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u] with the nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], I proposed it to [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] and he wasn’t a fan -_-.
I also love the idea of combining our names and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] would be perfect if I didn’t have a maternal uncle named [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and a cousin with the name as well, his son. [name_f]My[/name_f] family has really taken up a bunch of solid names! haha
