Teddy or Theo

Thinking about the name [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Teddy[/name] or [name]Theo[/name] better as a NM?

Definitely [name]Teddy[/name] - much cuter for a little boy.

Most definitely [name]Teddy[/name].

I do like [name]Teddy[/name], it’s quite cute, but… it reminds me of 2 things:

  • The name of every single one of my plush toys when I was younger.
  • Father [name]Ted[/name].

I prefer [name]Theo[/name], it’s cuter, and I don’t make a connection with anything else

[name]Theodore[/name]'s on my shortlist – it’s a lovely, refreshingly underused name. I absolutely adore the nickname [name]Teddy[/name] – so cute for a little boy! – but I also think [name]Theo[/name] is quite cool. I think you could use both, to be honest. He might prefer [name]Theo[/name] as he gets older though!

I much prefer [name]Theo[/name]. I think it is cuter for a little boy than [name]Teddy[/name] and I think it will wear better as he grows up. BUT I love the name [name]Leo[/name] and it is quite similar so I’m probably biased.

I absolutely love the name [name]Theodore[/name]! I am firmly in camp [name]Teddy[/name] as I am in love with the idea of a chubby little baby boy named [name]Teddy[/name]. [name]Theo[/name] is cool and I know a lot of people really like it, but it’s not my thing personally.

It’s good that you like both, though, because you never know what he’ll choose to go by as an adult.

I really like both, but I’m probably just slightly more on [name]Teddy[/name]'s side.

My only worry about [name]Teddy[/name] is that he will start calling himself [name]Ted[/name] later in life which I think is sooo boring. If you start with [name]Theo[/name] it can carry through life. I am really stuck on this because [name]Teddy[/name] is really cute for a kid and [name]Theo[/name] is great for an adult! Thanks for all your insight berries…maybe I will just pick out of a hat!

[name]Theo[/name]! Your son will thank you when he gets into high school, college, and beyond.

Definitely [name]Theo[/name].

I’m biased. I have a [name]Theo[/name] (just [name]Theo[/name], not [name]Theodore[/name]). We’ve always loved it and have had received a lot of positive comments on it through the years (he is 5).

I can see [name]Teddy[/name] on a sweet, chubby lil’ baby. But like you (or another poster commented), think it would most certainly become [name]Ted[/name] as he gets older. Not as much charm with just [name]Ted[/name].

I’m kind of a nickname gal, so I could also see [name]Teddy[/name] becoming [name]Teddy[/name] [name]Bear[/name] (you know, in those playful moments) and then possibly transitioning to just ‘[name]Bear[/name].’ Which is super adorable. But really, you can never tell what will stick on a kid until he/she gets here, and then it will probably surprise you with what comes the most natural to you and fits his/her personality.

Good luck!
