I have always had a little soft spot for the name [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. Is it wrong to use just [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a full name and not a nickname? I am not a fan of [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - i really just like teddy what do you all think?
as reference, my two other boys are named ānicknameā names, and not short for anything. I just like naming my child what I will call them, and I canāt imagine ever having an edward or a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. however I also understand why they might want something more substantial on their birth certificate in case he outgrows [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
what do you all think? would I be stupid to name my son just plain [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]?
any other names that could get to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] that arenāt [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]?
I suppose you could just name him Ted, if you feel that he may outgrow [name_u]Teddy[/name_u].
Or what about [name_m]Tedric[/name_m]?
Canāt help thinking though, that as your other two have ānicknameā names then that makes perfect sense to call him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]ā¦ if he outgrows it, he could always refer to himself as Ted.
I also really love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], without loving [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I think Ted works as a FN (I love Ted), yes itās short, but it allows for a strong, short, bold name thatās well recognised, and leads obviously to [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. Thatās probably the way Iād go if it were me.
I think it depends on where you live. In the UK, nickname names arenāt weird at all so a [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] would fit right in. If you live in the US or [name_f]Canada[/name_f], however, you might be better off naming him Ted or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and calling him [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] so he would have a more āadult-soundingā name if he thinks [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] is too childish.
I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] works fine as a stand alone name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] looked it up on names.darkgreener.com and it says it ranked #42 in [name_f]England[/name_f] & [name_m]Wales[/name_m] in 2015.
I also think using Ted as a full name and then [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a nn is a good option too.
I think [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as a first name is fine especially if your other 2 sons have nickname names. I also like the suggestion of Ted nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] or [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] nn Ted.
I posted about this exact same name here: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums and here: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums if youād like to read through the replies that I got.
I might be biased obviously, but I definitely love the name [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] and as others have stated, he could always go by Ted if he wanted something a bit more sophisticated.
I think that I will be using this name as well!
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_m]Edwin[/name_m]? Nn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]. I think it works fine on its own, as well, but it may be harder to pair with a middle
You already chose two nickname names. If you arenāt regretting it, I see no reason to stop now. It is certainly not to everyoneās tastes, but it seems to work for you.
