Tegwen?

At first I hated it, but now a few days later I actually think it’s gorgeous. Am I the only one? I know that even the description on this website says it’s “nowhere near as pretty as it’s meaning,” but I really like it. Am I crazy?

If you do like it, what middles would you pair it with? Or what firsts if you think [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] would be better as a middle? Nickname ideas include [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], [name_f]Wynn[/name_f]/[name_f]Winn[/name_f], or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I think I’d go with [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] instead, which has the equally lovely meaning of ‘beautiful’ and definitely feels more wearable.

This name is new to me. I thought maybe it was “[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]” as well… but [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] is growing on me quickly.

It reminds me of Tiguan, the Volkswagen model whose name is a combo of tiger and iguana. Obviously it’s not the same word, and [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] has a lot richer history and meaning, but the sound just doesn’t do it for me as a name.

That said, I love all the nickname possibilities—to me, [name_u]Wynn[/name_u]/[name_u]Winn[/name_u] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] seems the most natural.

I kinda like it! And I like its sound more than [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]'s
Wen and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] are my favorite nicknames

I think it’s really appealing and interesting - and the website is wrong about it! Another short form could be [name_m]Tenny[/name_m].

I don’t see any reason not to use it as a first name, if you’re prepared for the reactions you get when you choose any unusual name.

[name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]

It sounds a bit masculine to me. I know a Tegwyn but he’s known as Teg. He’s Welsh.

I’d prefer [name_f]Anwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f], Eirwen, [name_f]Bronwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f]

I’d never heard of [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] before, but I think I really like it! It intrigues me, and sounds both mysterious and spunky.

[name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] isn’t my style, and it reminds me of the more popular [name_u]Tegan[/name_u]. Not that that’s a bad thing. I think I’d pair a timeless classic with [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] such as [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]. Perhaps something more offbeat like [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] or [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. The most intuitive nickname imo is [name_u]Wyn[/name_u], but my favourite is [name_f]Gwen[/name_f].

My cousin (who is Welsh) has a friend called [name_f]Tegwen[/name_f], and in theory I like it very much, BUT I think it’s a name that sounds far better pronounced in a beautiful Welsh accent, then it does in any other accent.

When I say it, in my Eastern U.S. accent, it doesn’t sound anywhere near as beautiful as it does in a Welsh accent!

I’ve never heard it before but I actually like it. It sounds pretty.

I think it’s very creative! I love the nickname space. My favorite nickname is [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]
