Telegraph Names 🌷

Despite the fact that telegraph names can sometimes get a bad reputation, I find myself often loving them! I think lots of the names I like are telegraph-esque, and whenever I see or hear names like them I get quite excited!
So, with this being said, what are some of your favorite telegraph names and/or what are some telegraph names you’d recommend me?

Ahh, my vibe :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::laughing:

The thing with Telegraph names imho is that it’s all in the pairings. Sure they have stereotypical styles they lean into, like Greek, royal or Shakespearean names, but the best Telegraph names have an absolutely batsh!t approach to style, eg ‘Alexander Rassi Ridegway, to be known as Beetle’ (real example from 2022). There’s mythology mixed with nicknames, surnames, Euro-influences and the odd bit of gender bending. It’s that perfect combination of classic, outlandish, word names and just absolute nonsense.

Having said that, some inspo:

What is a Telegraph name? I don’t think I’ve heard of that. [name_f]My[/name_f] own name is in your list so I’m curious :joy:

The sort of names found in the birth announcements in the Telegraph, a British newspaper. The people who post these announcements are usually upper middle class or aristocratic and tend to have quite maximalist, quirky and old-fashioned name style.

Well I guess this is my type of name because my name is in this style and many many names I have on my list are also in this style. This is fun to know, thank you haha!

It’s entirely my style too, and I’m not at all aristocratic :wink:

I do love a good old Telegraph name! I’m very far from posh though so I’m not sure if I’d actually use Telegraph-style names on future kids because I don’t want people to stereotype :rofl:

some I love that I think you’d like are [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] for girls, and [name_u]Laurence[/name_u], [name_u]Monty[/name_u], [name_m]Otto[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] and [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] for boys.

Okey, just opened it and what do I already spy with my lil eye:

Nathan- On 26th April 2023, to Georgiana (née Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe) and Hugo, a daughter, Cloverleaf Violet Charlotte-Anne Anstruther.

I’m ready. I’m so ready. My evening just got planned. I can watch Bridgerton later.

Edited:
No way!! They are announcing engagements as well! I can’t contain myself! Moving to England as I’m writing this. Aready heading towards the airport! Who needs Bridgerton when we already have Bridgerton in real life!

Edited ^1 : So many mothers named Elianor and fathers named Alexander! And seeing a LOT of these names (obviously a lof of classics/ popular ones like Henry, James, Elizabeth, Rose, Olivia etc but these really stood out) : Theodora, Theodore (!), Wilfred (!), Francis(!), Ottilie(!), Ophelia, Artemis, Arthur, Leo, Octavia, Sienna (paired with Rose), Maximillian, Flora, Hector, Alexandra /er (!), Athena

A lot of Jeffrey’s as well, intresting. I thought it’s not popular anymore because of GOT.

Theodora/ e, Wilfred, Frederic, Alexander/ ra and Ottilie are almost on every page! Sometimes more than twice! Wilfred, Francis and Alexander are go-to middles for boys.
