Tell me about Greta

What do you think of the name [name_f]Greta[/name_f] for a baby born in Australia 2014?

Would love your totally honest opinions about it as a potential name for [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]'s little sister…

Thank you!

I absolutely love [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. It’s one of my favourites. It gets very mixed reactions on Nameberry, but I think it’s gorgeous. It’s on my list as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] to honour my grandmother but it works perfectly well alone.

It’s so fun and young without being immature, with a distinct old-Hollywood glamour ([name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Garbo[/name_f]). And it sounds perfect with big sister [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

I’m not a fan. In [name_m]German[/name_m] it’s pronounced “gray-ta”…I like that pronunciation more than the English but neither are really my style. That being said, if you love the name you should go for it!

Oh I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f]! It was on our list since our first baby. But I’ve gotten so much negativity from my family that I’ve scratched it twice now. I think it’s stunning next to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]!

I think [name_f]Greta[/name_f] goes well with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] lovely names !

I don’t really like the name [name_f]Greta[/name_f] it sounds harsh to me but I do know a 14 year old [name_f]Greta[/name_f], she gets called Gretz quite a bit as a nickname.

I like the name [name_f]Greta[/name_f] - I only know one (she’s around 9). However, I much prefer the name [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] (my twin sister’s name). I think both would be lovely with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! Best of luck.

I love it! Not sure how popular it is in Australia but it’s not every common here in the US. I know of one [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. I think it matches with your other daughters name.

I’m [name_m]German[/name_m] and I adore it in [name_m]German[/name_m]… [name_m]How[/name_m] do you say it in English? Like Gret-a or [name_u]Gray[/name_u]-ta? I think it’s very sweet with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], but it’s got the [name_m]German[/name_m] r in it and I’d probably shudder hearing people mispronounce it all the time
