Tenzin?

Hello! I’ve been rewatching the Legend of Korra, and recently fell in love with Tenzin (for either gender). But I’m worried about cultural appropriation, since I’m American, and from my brief research; it’s a Tiberian name that doesn’t have any bad association (please correct me if I’m wrong!), so is it alright for someone like me to use it, who lives in the US? TIA!

I adore [name_u]Tenzin[/name_u], especially because of [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Korra[/name_f]. Me personally I wouldn’t use it on a child because I’m not of that heritage but I think it’s perfectly fine for a list/UC etc. I don’t think it matters where you live just your heritage

I love the name [name_u]Tenzin[/name_u]!

[name_u]Tenzin[/name_u] is the most popular name in Tibet in honor of the current Dalai Lama, [name_u]Tenzin[/name_u] [name_m]Gyatso[/name_m]. I love [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Korra[/name_f] but I would definitely assume a child with this name was named after the Dalai Lama.

I also love The [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Korra[/name_f] and [name_u]Tenzin[/name_u] is a great name! I agree with others that it’s fantastic for a UC but for an actual child, I would recommend talking to some people from Tibet, especially if it might hold a sacred meaning related to the Dalai Lama.

I felt the same way about the name Tenzing recently after reading something about [name_m]Sir[/name_m] [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] [name_u]Hillary[/name_u]. I think it’s a variation of [name_u]Tenzin[/name_u] and has Tibetan roots too.

I agree with everyone that it’s absolutely fine to play with and have in your UC, but perhaps something to think carefully about before naming a child. For what it’s worth, I think it’s a super fun name and would make for some great combos!
