You guys have been so helpful! We have been struggling on baby names for our third child (a girl)… And were really feeling like [name_f]Lola[/name_f] was the one. We just heard some slightly worrisome news at an ultrasound, baby should be okay- but might need a small surgery after birth. Suddenly feeling nervous about the name meaning of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] ‘lady of sorrows’. I’m not much for name meanings, but I’m also feeling a little superstitious… And like I really want her to have name ASAP so we can let her know we are rooting for her, by name.
Our son is Wy@tt [name_u]James[/name_u], our daughter is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] Al1ce, and I am [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] (so we’d rather not go with a _y ending again). Two syllables is a big bonus.
Kind of like:
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] (but in top 20 in my state and we have the most common last name on earth)
[name_f]Clio[/name_f] (but husband hates this one)
I’m so sorry! I still love [name_f]Lola[/name_f], but understand your concern. I like [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Nina[/name_f]. I’m not sure they capture the same “old west” feel of [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] does work very well, and is beautiful. Here are a few more that I think would work well:
I like [name_f]Stella[/name_f] best - a positive meaning, and goes well with your other children: [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. Also love [name_f]Tessa[/name_f]. Good luck!
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]. It’s such a beautiful name, I have the combo [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] on my own list
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f] would be my 2nd pick, it’s equally as beautiful as [name_f]Nina[/name_f].
I’m not as keen on your other names but none of them are horrible/useable by any means, they just don’t appeal to me.
Have you considered [name_f]Nola[/name_f]? It seems like a combination of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and [name_f]Nina[/name_f], but without the same meaning as [name_f]Lola[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] all go perfectly with [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. Given that [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is so popular in your state and that’s a concern for you, I’d narrow it to [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f]. [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] seems like the obvious choice given your concern about [name_f]Lola[/name_f]'s meaning, however if you love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] to much to let her go, there’s your answer! Find an association for [name_f]Lola[/name_f] that you love. Maybe the song, a namesake…? Good luck! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] everything turns out ok. x
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] is my daughter’s name so I’m partial to it. I’m not sure if you know, but [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is a diminutive of [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] which yes, means sorrows and pain in Spanish. But maybe you’re not getting the entire picture. [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] comes from the title of Our Lady: [name_f]Mar[/name_f]ía de los [name_f]Dolores[/name_f] ([name_f]Mary[/name_f] of the Sorrows), basically it comes from a place of placing trust and faith in [name_f]Mary[/name_f] to intervene for us spiritually and take away our pain and sorrows, so it’s at least for me as a Catholic very spiritual and meaningful. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if you’re not Catholic or faithful to St. [name_f]Mary[/name_f], I think it’s still completely valid, usable and still retains it’s purpose and meaning, that faith can help us to overcome our pain and sorrows.
My second option is [name_f]Nina[/name_f] just because I love it so much, have for many years and think it’s a very international, highly-adaptable and stylish choice, without being trendy.
I’m not at all a fan of [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], but that’s just personal preference for me, no concrete reasons or bad associations.
I went to school with a girl who was born [name_f]Nina[/name_f] but her grandmother nicknamed her [name_m]Nino[/name_m] and everyone loved it so much she ended up changing her name to [name_m]Nino[/name_m] so maybe something like that? I love [name_f]Clio[/name_f] too but prefer it spelled [name_f]Cleo[/name_f].
Thanks for sharing, @catriona. Very interesting and ends up sounding like the best choice for this baby.
[name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] are all my favorites. You really can’t go wrong with any. Sending prayers & positive thoughts to you and your baby girl.
Thanks so much for giving me that extra information! I wish nameberry didn’t have that caption for the meaning of ‘[name_f]Lola[/name_f]’, because it’s really a downer for what I think is a beautiful name.
We still aren’t sure! But it’s good to have the opinions.
I agree that this can make [name_f]Lola[/name_f] very meaningful and spin the meaning into a positive. However if you are still not sure then I would say [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] is a beautiful option too!
