Testing combos again. With pros/cons

[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]
Pros
*The flow is good.
*Both have excellent meanings.
Cons
*It sounds like a very religious combo and I am not religious.
*[name_f]My[/name_f] partner thinks [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] sounds feminine.

[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Julian[/name_u]
Pros
*The flow is good.
*[name_u]Julian[/name_u] is perhaps an unexpected middle name choice paired with [name_u]Elias[/name_u] but it works.
Cons
*[name_f]My[/name_f] partner isn’t too keen. Says [name_u]Julian[/name_u] is dated.
*[name_u]Julian[/name_u] sounds perhaps a bit feminine.

[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]
Pros
*It sounds so handsome to me, almost like the name belongs in a [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] novel.
*The flow is good.
Cons
*[name_f]My[/name_f] partner thinks the meaning of beehive in [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] is too strange.

[name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]
Pros
*[name_f]My[/name_f] partner likes [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]
*They pair fairly well.
Cons
*[name_m]Fraser[/name_m] feels like a surname to me.
*The overall name pairing feels a bit too short.
*The name meaning is uncertain and I don’t like that fact much.

So this is my reasoning behind the middle name choices.

Despite my partner not really liking any of the middle name choices :sweat_smile::sweat_smile: he says it’s my choice to pick what I would like as he has picked [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and vetoed my first name choices. It’s fortunate that I don’t mind [name_u]Elias[/name_u]. I have added in [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] as my partner likes it but it’s not a first choice for me.

Wondering what others thought?

I’d go with [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]! I love (and agree with) your description, and you sound more excited about this one than the other combos.

Elias [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]: I agree with you about the flow and the meaning–both great! I wouldn’t be shocked to meet someone non-religious with this name, but I might be a tiny bit surprised. One or the other on their own doesn’t feel especially religious to me at all, but together they do give it a bit more of a religious feel. I don’t think [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] sounds feminine and it honestly wouldn’t bother me anyway, but if it turns your partner off of it, then my opinion on that doesn’t really matter!

Elias [name_u]Julian[/name_u]: I like the flow of this one too! And I agree with you that [name_u]Julian[/name_u] is slightly unexpected as a middle, but in a really nice way! I don’t think it sounds dated or feminine (and it honestly wouldn’t bother me if it did), but again, your partner’s opinion definitely outweighs mine here!

Elias [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]: This is such a handsome combo, and I love the flow of it (especially that each name has a different syllable count). I’m biased because I just love [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] in general, but this is definitely my favorite of your combos. If it helps, NB also lists “little brook” and “bee cottage” as possible meanings, both of which I think are adorable (although I don’t mind beehive either).

Elias [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]: I don’t love the flow of this one quite as much as the others, but it definitely still works! I don’t think it seems particularly short but obviously yours is the opinion that matters there. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association with [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] is [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] fir trees, which I think makes a lovely nature connection. NB lists the meaning as “strawberry,” which is kind of fun too if a little random.

Overall, [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] would definitely be my first choice! I like the balance between the soft consonants and bright “i” sound in [name_u]Elias[/name_u], with the crisp-yet-gentle “k” and “t” in [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]. I think it flows beautifully and I actually love the meaning of [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] (and, for you, the fact that it doesn’t have a religious vibe). A wonderful choice all around, although really you have a great list here!

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response. [name_f]My[/name_f] top ones are [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Julian[/name_u] at the moment. I totally agree about your comments on [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]. I think I am trying to make them work together, when really I like each name separately best and not as a combo.

I like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] best! I agree, it’s so handsome, sounds like it’s out of a book.

I definitely think [name_u]Julian[/name_u] is more feminine than [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], and for me, I really just don’t love most Jul- names, I just think of drool. I like [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], but it does sound a bit religious.

Elias [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] I also don’t love. I just don’t love the sound of [name_m]Fraser[/name_m].

So top choice is [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u], second choice [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u]!

Can I suggest [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Bennett[/name_u]? Sounds just as handsome as [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] I think and has good flow, but the meaning is “[name_u]Blessed[/name_u]” which is lovely. Alternatively, we could do [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] or [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] but not sure if you would like the double E initials!

My fave is [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], and I know you have long loved [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] :two_hearts:

I don’t read it as particularly religious — after all, [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] is a Top 100 name here in the UK and used by all sorts of parents. And [name_u]Elias[/name_u] doesn’t feel super religious either — more a cool, lesser-used alternative to [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

Add to that the fact that [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] would be the middle name, not many will know the full combo and still fewer will think “Biblical” when they hear it.

I also love [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and think it works well here. In terms of sound and vibe, [name_u]Julian[/name_u] feels like a non-Biblical [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], so it makes a nice substitute if you’re concerned about that aspect.

Beckett isn’t my style but the sharper sounds really complement the flowier [name_u]Elias[/name_u] and your partner’s comment about the meaning seems like a total non-issue given that this is a middle name and your choice! I think :honeybee: is an adorable meaning, but no one will know it either way.

And I really like [name_m]Fraser[/name_m], but given this is your choice and it’s not love for you, I’d nix it and focus on the other three that appeal to you more.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite by far is [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]! It sounds dignified, but with spunk!

Thanks @Waverly123. That’s exactly how I feel about the name. It feels memorable and like it could be a character’s name. I love my literature. I am an [name_f]English[/name_f] lit graduate so this ticks so many boxes for me in this respect. I like [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] too but I used to work for someone who had this surname and she was a really poor manager and grated on me so I don’t know. I am not keen on [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] as it makes me think of [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] but I do like [name_u]Everett[/name_u] but not sure if the EE is a bit much?
@katinka thanks! Always such poignant points. You’re right I absolutely adore [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] but I just feel it might not be quite right in this combo. Which is a shame. It’s not completely written off yet though. [name_u]Julian[/name_u] does feel like a none biblical [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] hah you’re right. I think a lot of the Latin names are so lovely. To be honest my partner has a very conservative naming style. He likes names that are not too out there and I’m not really taking into consideration what he thinks because I’ve got free reign so to speak :slightly_smiling_face::face_with_hand_over_mouth::eyes:

Fraser I don’t mind either but it’s never really wowed me, I don’t know… Hmm

@may.rose nice to see some love for [name_m]Fraser[/name_m] :slightly_smiling_face:

Sorry I should mention ( as I sound a bit mean there about not considering my partner’s opinion) he has picked both of our boys names. I like our boys names but they were not my first choices. Therefore, the middle name option, for me is based purely on my likes/taste which I feel is totally fair.

Tough choice. I love [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u], and [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_m]Fraser[/name_m]. [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Julian[/name_u] isn’t my favorite. It’s not bad at all but just doesn’t have the same sparkle for me as the other ones.
I think [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] has the slightest edge for me just because the sounds in the names are so different yet complement each other well.
But I definitely think you should go with the one that is the most meaningful to you.

I really can’t decide at the moment but I do have a real softspot for [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]. Especially as I think the name will sound great with our surname too. I think I am obsessing over boys names some what because I have convinced myself that I will have another boy. Therefore I really want to be in love with the name etc

I agree, [name_u]Elias[/name_u] [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] does sound great with your surname.
I feel the same about naming our next one too.

Do you feel like you really love your girl name(s) options? Because that’s the case for me. I am really happy with our girls name we have. The boys name I have really procrastinated on

Hmm I do love a lot of girl names but honestly, I probably won’t start obsessing about girl names unless I’m sure we’re having a girl. I have one combo that I really like but it’s been the same for a while and I keep coming back to it so I guess it could be the one.

A lot of the boy names on my list are some that I found when we were naming our twins. So I definitely have plenty of boys’ names. Lol
