Thoughts on this name? It’s a Greek name meaning to blossom. How do you like it as a brother for [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f], [name_f]Hebe[/name_f] and [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]?
I love the association with [name_m]Thales[/name_m] of Miletus, the Greek philosopher and mathematician.
I’m curious how it’s pronounced? I just see tales/tails!
ETA: I looked it up on behindthename and they have a Greek and an English pronunciation. I really enjoy the Greek. I also realized I have come across Thallo as a name and I like it too. I think it’s feminine though.
I think it’s cool! It’s unique, but not too out-there to be usable, imo.
I might be concerned about pronunciation, though. I would instinctively read it as “thaylz”, as I think many, or even most, would, but, if it’s Greek, I wonder if that’s not correct.
I love it, I think it’s a great name and it would go very well with [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f], [name_f]Hebe[/name_f] and [name_u]Vesper[/name_u].
About the pronunciation: I’d pronounce it the same as you. In [name_f]English[/name_f] the pronunciation is apparently THAY-leez, but I agree that could be confusing.
[name_m]Thales[/name_m] is an intriguing name! I like the sound and look. tah-less is definitely my favourite pronunciation. I actually remember doing Thales’ Theorem in school a few years ago, and I always liked the strong but somehow gentle sound of his name.
I think [name_m]Thales[/name_m] fits nicely with [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f], [name_f]Hebe[/name_f], and [name_u]Vesper[/name_u]! They all give me quirky, mystical vibes.
I like it a lot with the Greek pronunciation, but I didn’t initially even recognize it as a Greek name so pronounced it like “sales-with-a-TH”. I guess if you live somewhere where it would be pronounced properly, I’d say go for it!
Wonderful name, & I absolutely love the philosophical connection!
Personally, I’ve only ever heard the classic [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation “THAY-leez”, but “TAH-less” is relatively easy to pick up too!
