Our only reason to not pick [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is because we’re afraid that it will remind people of the daughter of [name_m]Zeus[/name_m] in [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] if dhe happen to tell people her full name. We do love the middle name [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and will not change it.

I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] and it would never occur to me that it was dated.

[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is beautiful, I don’t find it dated at all.

Both are lovely names! However, I find [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] dated and I love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] (pronounced ta-lee-ah). With you your pronounciation with [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], I think people will not pronounce the th

I absolutely love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] but [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a fairly well known character in the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] series. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is beautiful too!

We know that [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is a well-known character in [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m], but we just can’t get rid of it because it’s so beautiful!
HELP!

I didn’t make the association with [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] at all, and I love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a name. I love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] equally, but I think [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is a better stylistic match with [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] and [name_u]Alex[/name_u].

@danakatherine:
Thanks:D

I love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], don’t think it sounds dated at all!

I love [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and it’s a family name, but it means grace so the name is kind of grace-grace-- which is not a bad meaning, but I like mixing it up a bit so I voted for [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] fits more with your sibset ([name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is a lot less common than [name_f]Marissa[/name_f] and [name_u]Alex[/name_u]).

I absolutely adore [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].
Nothing wrong with the name [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] but I do think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] works better with middle [name_f]Grace[/name_f].

I don’t think [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is dated at all, I think it’s beautiful. I feel like there’s really only one standard pronunciation of [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], which would be Ta-lee-a with the emphasis on the first syllable. So pronouncing it another way might mean a lot of explaining.

I love both names (I think of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] as pretty timeless) but think [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] works better for your sibset.
Here’s a quick list for why I think it’s fine to use [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]:

  1. The combo would definitely make a lot of people think of the character, but since [name_f]Grace[/name_f] isn’t an unusual name I wouldn’t let it override your love for the name. If I met her I’d think of [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] but wouldn’t necessarily assume you named her after the character.
  2. I asked my local [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] fangirl and she said the fandom loves [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] (I never know who the fans will like just based on reading a book lol), so it’s not like most fans would think “ugh that character.” That takes care of a large percentage of people who’d make the connection, they’d mostly think it was cool. Although it sounds like you might’ve known that from your original post.
  3. The combo is beautiful and, I might’ve misinterpreted things, it sounds like you’re mostly considering [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] because of [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]? I wouldn’t give up your favorite name unless the character was a really, really awful association or synonymous with the name in an [name_f]Oprah[/name_f] way.

I don’t find [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] to be dated (at least it’s not where I live). I think it’s a beautiful, elegant name. [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is lovely too though I’m never quite sure which way to pronounce it, since there are a number of pronunciations in use. I’ve never read the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] books and so I was unaware of the character.

My daughter’s name is [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] and I love it. Only one or two people have mentioned the [name_u]Percy[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] reference. People do generally try to clarify whether we use the hard T or not, I think people are used to [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. We pronounce it Thahl-ya.

One other thing, is kids have a hard time pronouncing the “th” sound so her cousin calls her “Falia” right now and she calls herself “[name_f]Talia[/name_f]”. Hopefully that will resolve as they grow up.

There is also a Latina (I think Mexican?) pop singer named [name_f]Thalia[/name_f], pronounced tha-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-ah.

Best wishes!
