Thatcher and Archer too similar?

Hey,
I am pregnant with my 2nd son. We already have one named [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]. We love the name [name_u]Archer[/name_u] (Archie as a nickname) but we are unsure if the names are similar. There are 5 years apart. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

They are a little matchy for my tastes, but not unusably so - especially if you plan to use [name_m]Archie[/name_m].

(I might be tempted to use [name_m]Archie[/name_m] as a stand alone? [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] and [name_m]Archie[/name_m]? Up to you though)

Slightly too close for my liking, but it could work!

I think it’s fine

I think they’re very cute (as boys) and handsome (as men)!

They are very similar in that they are both in the same theme of names and share the same endings but if you stuck to that theme with any boys you had in the future it could be a really nice set, in my opinion! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband told me of a sibset his co-worker has along these lines and I thought it was very neat and handsome!

[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_u]Archer[/name_u], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], [name_m]Booker[/name_m], [name_u]Baylor[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Chandler[/name_u], [name_m]Clark[/name_m], [name_m]Boyer[/name_m], [name_m]Baxter[/name_m], [name_u]Cleary[/name_u], [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_u]Dean[/name_u], [name_u]Cohen[/name_u], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Foster[/name_m], [name_m]Forester[/name_m], etc.

There are more ideas in the occupational names list link below. You could look them over and consider whether the idea appeals to you or not;

(Also, I don’t see it as an issue if you were to go with occupational names for boys and not for girls as long as the girls’ names had similar sounds/flowed nicely together.)

Btw, [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] has been a long-time favorite of mine that I just never saw working in my own family (maybe as a middle though!) I always liked “Thatch” as a nickname, it’s a very handsome choice!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband is [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and my kids are [name_m]Benton[/name_m], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and Benton’s names are constantly being mixed up and [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] end up being Ray-Arwen and Ar-Raven. :joy::person_facepalming: We tend to mix our kids names up anyway, but I think them being similar makes it so much worse. [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] and [name_u]Archer[/name_u] are both great names, but way too similar for brothers in my opinion just simply because of the headache that will come with constantly saying the wrong name.

[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] and [name_u]Archer[/name_u] definitely have a very similar sound to them. I think it might get confusing as you use each name more and more. I like both names! But not together.

I think they’re way too similar.

They are a little too close for me but if it doesn’t bother you then I would use them. I know siblings who have names that are drastically closer than that so if you love [name_u]Archer[/name_u] then use it. [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is such a cute nn.

I think [name_u]Archer[/name_u] is a very handsome name ! I do think another name ending in CHER might become a tongue twister , however they will not always be living in the same house - and will have separate friends so I don’t think it would be too hard. I think you should always use a name you love !

Would an [name_u]Archer[/name_u] alternative work ?
[name_m]Archibald[/name_m]
[name_m]Archie[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_u]Atlas[/name_u]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]

Names like [name_u]Archer[/name_u] but maybe less obvious
[name_m]Bowman[/name_m]
[name_u]Holden[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]

Definitely too similar, sorry! But just [name_m]Archie[/name_m] could work as a brother to [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], I don’t think it needs to be a nickname to something longer!

They’re too close for comfort for me.

I little similar. What about [name_u]Alfie[/name_u]?

Also (as far as mixing names up goes) my family (immediate and extended) does this quite frequently with all my children and their cousins (their names share some similar sounds but are still clearly distinct from each other)! Lots of children running around the house may just do that to some people haha!

I don’t think they’re unusable together, although they sound very similar. [name_f]My[/name_f] main concern would be that it’s a bit of a tongue twister when you want to call them both at the same time or when you want to introduce them together (“these are my sons, [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] and Archer”).

I wouldn’t worry too much about mixing up names. I’ve got 6 children with very different names and they all get called by each other’s names regularly, as well as combinations of two names (Endeonid, anyone?) :joy:

They are too close for me, only because I know if they were mine and I was trying to call both of them I would definitely say “Tharcher” on accident more than once  the girls I take care of share a first initial and I combine/mix up their names all the time. But, in your mind and for your family, if it works for you and it’s not a tongue twister, then I would go for it! I like the suggestion of [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] too

Hilarious! Exactly what happens in my family and with my niece and nephews, my brothers and sisters, etc. I called my son by my brother’s name just the other day!
