Is there any sort of version of the ssa’s most popular names list that combines spellings?
I know i read something on another blog, months ago, that said the "real"most popular girl name of 2012 was [name_f]Cataleya[/name_f], because if you combined all the spellings of it the number of kids with the same name shot up past all the Emmas and Sophias (and for the life of me i can’t figure out where i read that to fact check it, so if anyone knows what I’m referring to, please link the article!)
I thought it’d be interesting to see a list with all the spellings of all names combined, so [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]/sofeeyah/etc would all be counted together. Anyone know of something like that?
[name_f]Cataleya[/name_f] was the highest rising girls’ name in 2012, but I seriously doubt it beat out [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and various spellings.
Name Nerds does this (and a ton of other stuff), but it takes about six months after the release of the SSA list for the combined list to be out. They organize ALL the names that make the extended SSA list- names given to five or more boys or girls.
Combined spelling makes sense if you guess pronunciation right. I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] don’t have same pronunciation. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-may-leeyuh and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is Eh-[name_f]Millie[/name_f]-uh.
