The Art of Arthur

I want to be more organised with my list now that I have finally gotten time to relax and the first stop is my boys list. This time, I have come seeking a middle name for one of my most beloved masc names, [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] has long held the second position among my favourites, right after [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]. If, for some reason, I am unable to use [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] will be my go-to. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it becomes the most popular name in the world, it would always remain on my list.

However, I have recently realised that I seemingly have no middles for him. None at all. So, this is my quest to find the perfect middle for [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]. It’s a short list but definitely what I am most likely to go for.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] - “blessed” - I find [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] to be absolutely dashing. It caught my eye from the moment I saw it, and I would agree the actor had something to do with it. A variation, [name_m]Benedick[/name_m], appears in Shakespeare’s Much [name_f]Ado[/name_f] About Nothing. I don’t have much connections to it as I do with some of my other names, but I would use it regardless. Nevertheless, I am conflicted in whether I should save [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] for an entirely different combo instead. It is one of the more traditional names on this list.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Horace[/name_m] - “timekeeper” - I like [name_m]Horace[/name_m] but it ranks a bit low on my list to be given a combo on its own. Both [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and [name_m]Horace[/name_m] are vintage and give an old-timey feel, which I love, but doesn’t exactly go with the rest of my names. I think [name_m]Horace[/name_m] would be a fit for something more modern yet equally powerful (Magnus [name_m]Horace[/name_m] comes to mind). Plus, are there too many R-sounds? Would [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] make a better alternative to the traditional [name_m]Horace[/name_m]?

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m] - “the high one” - I love the contrast in style between the classic [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] and the contemporary [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m]. I am highly unlikely to ever give [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m] usage since I believe it is too much for a child to carry. [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m] is a [name_m]Titan[/name_m] in Greek mythology and shares his name with a superhero and the world’s tallest tree, which, depending on your perspective, could be both negative and positive associations.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] - “supplanter” - If I would be asked to give a middle name to [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], the first thing to pop up in my mind would be [name_u]James[/name_u]. [name_u]James[/name_u] has been on my list for quite some time but has only ever decreased in rank. I think it is quite simple and sweet. I am still not sure if [name_u]James[/name_u] measures up to [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] (the middle for my top combo) and if I would like to use it at all. It also has a minor connection to [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_m]Swift[/name_m] throught the song Style. Still, I suppose it deserves a spot on this list.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u] - “father of the sky” - I cannot put into words how much I love [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u]. It doesn’t sound too out-there, thanks to the recent celebrity usage, but it isn’t common either. It is the name of the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] deity of the sky and thunder, and belongs to the largest planet in the solar system. The planet has a faint ring system, as do all four giants. If you know me, you would probably know how much astronomy delights me. [name_f]My[/name_f] only con with the name is the similar endings.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] - “messenger of the gods” - I re-discovered [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] a few days back and thought of it immediately while compiling names for this list. Not only is it the name of a planet but of an element too! The [name_m]Roman[/name_m] god [name_u]Mercury[/name_u], which derives from the Latin words for trade or wages, is the patron of tradesmen and travelers and the fastest-moving planet in the solar system.

  • [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] - *" [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] is slightly significant to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] love for this name began when I heard [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Swift’s seven which had the lyrics: love you to the moon and to saturn . [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] was the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] god of time. [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] has the most spectacular ring system, with seven rings and several gaps and divisions between them. I love the flow of this name.

So, that’s it! I feel like the list wasn’t that fulfilling but that’s my list for now. What are your opinions on/favourites from this list? I am open to suggestions as well! Thank you.

I really like [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m], it has a similar vibe to [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] to me. It pairs a surprising middle name with a more familiar first name. I also like the meaning with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], makes me think of [name_f]Ursa[/name_f] [name_m]Major[/name_m] as in “the high bear”.

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Mercury[/name_u] is so cool! It has flair and distinction!

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] is brilliant - celestial but strong

Runners up:

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u] - I like the boldness, and I don’t hate the repeated ending, but it’s what puts me off a fraction

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m] - magical and starry, it’s just not a personal fave

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] would be fabulous too!

I love celestial names, I’d just think twice about [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] because of saturnism and because as a kid I’ve been absolutely traumatized by Goya’s painting of [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] devouring his son

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u] is very, very strong and powerful, I also love [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]

[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] is stunning!! All the planet names are lovely with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], but there’s something extra elegant about [name_u]Saturn[/name_u] to me. I feel like matches Arthur’s more classic feel better than the rest. [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Horace[/name_m] is also nice, but [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] is amazing!

I love the celestial names (Saturn, [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u], Mercury) just because they sound so good with [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]! I know you’re not looking for a sib-set, but they’re so well matched.
As for other opinions, I like [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] better then [name_m]Horace[/name_m] (has more romantic flair), and I would rank [name_u]James[/name_u] my least favourite just because it doesn’t really make [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] shine. [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] is handsome and wonderful, and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Hyperion[/name_m] is distinct and flashy, in a good way.
For some reason I am quite drawn to Italian boys names with [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] for your list. Maybe because of the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] god connections, or the romantic, international vibe they give that seems to match your style. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m], [name_m]Orlando[/name_m], [name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m], [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m], Cosimo… Not sure if you would want to use such names if you are not Italian, but they do sounds great!
Other suggestions are:
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] Dimitri/s
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Achilles[/name_m]
