The Battle of the El- Names!

I’ve fallen for three names that feel rather similar (and definitely start similarly!), and I need help picking. :frowning: The names are [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f].

[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]: I love the meaning of [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] (my God is my light), and how dainty and spunky she is all at once. I’m just not sure I’m brave enough to use it up front. I always thought of it as MN potential until now.

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]: I waver back and forth on LOVING [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and being bored with it. I love how [name_m]French[/name_m] it is, the versatility of nns (most of which I adore!), the dainty feeling… but I named my idiotic clunker of a car [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (foolishly!) back in 2012, and though I’m in the midst of replacing her, and am starting crushing on [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] all over again, there had been a lot of negativity and frustration pent up in [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] until recently.

[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]: For some reason, [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] sort of represents [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] to me. Which I love. [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] is a place very near and dear to my heart–I fell in love when I was there in 2007, and I’ll be going back next summer. It may be because [name_f]Heloisa[/name_f] is on [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]'s top 100, and the first little girl I came across named [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] ([name_f]Heloisa[/name_f], Heloiza, etc.) was an adorable little Brazilian girl. She feels like the breeze on the calm beaches of Praia do Iguape, and happy giggles. I much prefer [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] to [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]. But I worry that people would just assume it was [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], and I feel like that’d annoy me. That, and I’m not sure I can see me ever using [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]. It always seemed more of a GP to me until recently.

Sorry about the novel. I’m sure whichever I don’t use up front I’ll use as a MN somewhere–I’m already considering [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]–but I’d love to make up my mind on which [name_f]El[/name_f]- name I’d like to use.

Thanks, Berries!

It sounds like [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] is the one.
Personally, I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and the meaning of [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] is so beautiful that I love it too. But I think [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] beats them both, especially with the meaning it has for you.

I love [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] (surprisingly, since I am not a fan of [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] at all) and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]. I think I prefer [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] (flows much better, imo) and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] as a first name.

I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]! I’d never heard of [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] before, but it’s cute, too. Does sound/ a lot like the more popular [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], which I am not a fan of, but I love your story of why you love it!

I like all of them. I prefer [name_f]Elora[/name_f] to [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], but it’s a gorgeous name. [name_f]Elora[/name_f] just feels sleeker, less frilly to me. I go back and forth with crushing on [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] too, but lately berry combos like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Clover[/name_f] have me swooning! [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] is very pretty. I like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] but lately have grown tired of it, esp the weez sound which is diminished with [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]. I wouldnt worry about them being confused. No more than [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].

Without reading your descriptions, I would have picked [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] first and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] second for you. [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] for her meaning and bright, feminine vibe. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] for her Frenchness. but it sounds like you might have the strongest connection to [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]? After reading I would say [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] first and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] second, but I think you should remain open to [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] as a first.

That’s my two cents. Good luck!

[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] is my favorite. I like the sound of [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], actually.

I want to like [name_f]Elora[/name_f]–I actually do like it quite a lot–but there’s a little [name_f]Elora[/name_f] in my church, so I feel like it’s probably better not to use that one. It might be okay as a MN, but not as a FN. That, and though she’s a pretty cute kid, she also has this sort of… self-entitled?.. air about her, which sort of ruins [name_f]Elora[/name_f] for me. It does make more sense for the nn [name_f]Lola[/name_f] (which I’d use for any of these), but at this point I feel like [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] is more usable of the two.

I am definitely still open to [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]–argh, now you’re making me want [name_f]Elora[/name_f]!–as well as [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is growing on me, but I feel like she’s more of a MN this time around. I do really like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], if I use [name_f]Claire[/name_f] up front, or maybe even [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], etc.? [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] has ties to my sister, too (it was her “[name_m]French[/name_m] name” in [name_m]French[/name_m] class), so it might be a bit odd to use it up front, anyhow.

I love [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as a nn for these! Does make slightly more sense with the ‘lo’ there, but if you love [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] more, it works…

My favourite is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]!

@emsky - I started with [name_f]Lola[/name_f] and worked backward. I’m actually not even sure about these three, but I’m trying to give them a shot. I love the ties to [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] with [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f], but I love the religious ties to [name_f]Eliora[/name_f]/[name_f]Elora[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is probably out as a FN, but I may use her as a MN. I like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f].

I love all these names

I prefer [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. They just seem prettier haha, I think my fav of the three is [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] but I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] aswell. Goodluck

Thanks! For what it’s worth, [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are definitely staying–both are in my top 5, and I hardcore adore them both–but I’m looking to refresh (and maybe elongate!) my list, too, so I’m playing around with some new combos. I’ve fallen for [name_f]Lola[/name_f], and these were some of my favorites, so I figured I’d give them a shot.

I discovered [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Honor[/name_f] about an hour ago and am hardcore crushing on it, so we’ll try it out for now. I think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is on the backburner for now, but I may give her a shot if I can shake the association to my stupid car. If I could come up with a combo for [name_f]Elora[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliora[/name_f], I would try those out, too. I don’t think [name_f]Elora[/name_f] [name_f]Honor[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliora[/name_f] [name_f]Honor[/name_f] sounds as good as [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f] [name_f]Honor[/name_f]. :frowning:
