For the most part, my first names are a bit old-fashioned with the middle names adding some interest and making the combos my own. Like most of us here, I’m always on the lookout for names with familiar sounds that are uncommon or at least unexpected. Below is my boy’s list with mostly completed combos.
Then comes [name_u]Claude[/name_u]. Poor, sweet [name_u]Claude[/name_u] is a flop. I love the name. The trouble is finding a combo that works for me and sits well with the rest of my list without being too much or, heaven forbid, bland. I’m struggling to find that balance. So, I’ve come to you for help.
These are my [name_u]Claude[/name_u] combos:
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Innes[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Rigby[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Orson[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Roark/name_m
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] Ames
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Omri[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Alban[/name_m]
Claude Everest was my go to combo for ages. It doesn’t really “fit” my current list. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see my dilemma?
Which, if any, of my [name_u]Claude[/name_u] combos do you like? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think any of them would sit well with my other combos? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you combo [name_u]Claude[/name_u] to fit my boy’s list?
I am afraid this probably isn’t very helpful, but I think your [name_u]Claude[/name_u] combos go well with your list as they are! I guess it just comes down to personal preference, how the names sound to you. To me, they sound lovely together. I especially like the [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Roarke[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], [name_m]Rigby[/name_m], and [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m] pairings. I think [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Everest[/name_u] fits well too, especially with [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m] [name_f]Briar[/name_f].
But if you’re looking for new suggestions, here’s what I thought:
@ivoryelodia: This is very helpful! I tend to be rather critical of my combos and want everything to be just so when it comes down to it. Thankfully, I’m also open to seeing things in a different light. For instance, I didn’t see [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Everest[/name_u] as fitting with my current list at all, but maybe I need to give it and a few of the other combos some time and become (re-)accustomed to them.
I love your suggestion of [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Soren[/name_m]. It’s quite a handsome combo.
My favourites are [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Innes[/name_m], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Orson[/name_m], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Ivan[/name_m] and [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Alban[/name_m]! They’re all interesting like your other combos and I think they work well together.
@tdfm: I’m warming up a bit more to [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]. Thank you!
@gia.berry: They’re definitely on the [name_u]Claude[/name_u] shortlist. Thanks!
@sky85: Great suggestions! I particularly enjoy [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Albus[/name_m], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] (just added [name_m]Leonard[/name_m] [name_m]Rune[/name_m] to my list!), [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m], and [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Ashby[/name_u].
I wonder if the problem is that all your current middle name choices are two-syllables. With a one syllable name like [name_u]Claude[/name_u], I think 3+ syllable middle names sound best, like your previous favorite, [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Everest[/name_u]. If I had to choose from the current list, my favorite would be [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], but what I really want to do is break up some of your other combos: [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]! [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]! [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]! Maybe [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], or [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] instead of [name_u]Claude[/name_u] Ames?
I agree with mega_muffin that a three syllable middle name sounds better with [name_u]Claude[/name_u]. Some good combinations have already been made and here are a few of my suggestions:
@mega_muffin: I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I got into a bit of a rut with my middle name choices being so similar. [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m], [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], and [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] are swoon-worthy.
Your suggestion, [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], isn’t quite my style but it’s such a fun combo. [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] is nice. I used to have [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] on my list, so I could get into this.
Thank you! @bonhomieconsomie: Great suggestions! I am loving [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]; it’s so handsome!
I like
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Antony[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Lucien[/name_m]
As [name_u]Claude[/name_u] is a modern version of [name_m]Claudius[/name_m], maybe if you looked at modern versions of old [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names such as those above.
@asherose: [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] is quite handsome! [name_m]Lucien[/name_m] isn’t one that typically appeals to me, as I prefer [name_m]Lucian[/name_m], but it balances nicely with [name_u]Claude[/name_u].
Modern versions of [name_m]Roman[/name_m] names could make for nice, interesting middle choices. Great idea.
for whatever reason i’m loving the suggestions of [name_u]Claude[/name_u] followed by R- names. maybe there’s something there?
that heavy “d” sound at the end works best with vowel-heavy middle names, in my opinion. i also think it fits really well with other french names, being a french classic. a couple of examples:
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Remy[/name_u]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] (the H is less pronounced in [name_m]French[/name_m], maybe this helps?)
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_m]Emile[/name_m]
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
also, i’m not sure if this will help as you seem dead set on [name_u]Claude[/name_u] but maybe a variant would fit the rest of your list better? there aren’t many but [name_f]Claudie[/name_f], [name_m]Claudio[/name_m], and [name_m]Claudiu[/name_m] are usable, i think.
best of luck with poor little [name_u]Claude[/name_u].
