The cultural challenge: the short version

Thanks to the input we recieved yesterday, the list of possibilities became shorter. It would look a bit like this:

[name_f]Emi[/name_f] / [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] +

[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] [name_m]Naveed[/name_m]
[name_f]Mariam[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_f]Zarah[/name_f] [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] Roshan
[name_f]Darya[/name_f] Shahin
[name_f]Roxana[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoya[/name_f]
Zareen

I’m really liking this list.

One name that didn’t get votes, but I keep wondering about is Hyder (could be spelled Haydar, though it confuses pronounciationa bit). Since [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] alreayd looks like a trendy name along the lines of [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m], [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u] (but pronounced differently), I thought Hyder follows that because it looks like a version of [name_u]Hayden[/name_u] and Sawer put together. Not saying that it is a good thing, I just thought it looks and feels similar.

Once again thank you for your help so far. If you could help me make this shorter it will be great.

My faves are [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoya[/name_f]; and [name_m]Naveed[/name_m] (loved this!), [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] and Roshan. About Hyder, it reminds me of Mr [name_m]Hyde[/name_m], of Dr [name_m]Jekyll[/name_m] and Mr [name_m]Hyde[/name_m]. Creepy!

Great

So what do you think of these?

[name_f]Emi[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Emi[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Emi[/name_f] and [name_f]Zoya[/name_f]

[name_m]Raiden[/name_m] and [name_m]Naveed[/name_m]
[name_m]Raiden[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]
[name_m]Raiden[/name_m] and Roshan (is the R-R wrong?)

If it is a boy and a girl, we’ll keep [name_f]Emi[/name_f] and use a Persian name for the boy, whichever comes on top.

I love [name_f]Emi[/name_f] that’s so pretty and sweet! [name_f]Emi[/name_f] + Roshan is nice. I suggest & love the name [name_m]Naveen[/name_m], it reminds me of prince [name_m]Naveen[/name_m] from [name_f]Princess[/name_f] & the frog

Thank you Chey097.

I am actually a bit hesitant to use [name_m]Naveed[/name_m] because of the [name_f]Princess[/name_f] and the frog movie, which I have not watched, but I am not particularly fond of this sort of associations. It isn’t a bad one though. I’m not ruling the name out because of it.

I really love [name_f]Zarah[/name_f]! My favourite of your choices. I like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] and [name_f]Darya[/name_f] too, but prefer [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Daria[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] is gorgeous, but prefer [name_f]Lila[/name_f].

I really like [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m] for a boy! I think Hyder is lovely too, I like [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] and love H names, so best of both!

Good luck!!

Thank you  That is sort of how I see Hyder too, but I also see the connection with Dr. [name_m]Jekyll[/name_m] and Mr. [name_m]Hyde[/name_m]. I’m really not sure.

Stylistically, I really like [name_f]Emi[/name_f] with [name_f]Mariam[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Lilah[/name_f], and [name_f]Darya[/name_f]
[name_m]Raiden[/name_m] does feel like a trendier name (as you say, [name_u]Aiden[/name_u], [name_u]Jaiden[/name_u], [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m], ect), and in that vein I do think Hyder goes with it. The trendy names are not really my style, but I do think Hyder works! FWIW, I did not immediately think of [name_m]Jekyll[/name_m] and [name_m]Hyde[/name_m]. From your list I really like [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspar[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Naveed[/name_m], but I also try to avoid pop culture references.

I think if we lived in our home countries, [name_m]Raiden[/name_m] and Hyder/[name_m]Caspar[/name_m]/[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]/Roshan wouldn’t be the first names we would come up with. However, we are trying to go easy on our kids and give them “undercover” Persian/Japanese names that Westerners might appreciate.

Trendy isn’t horrible, is it? I don’t know :frowning:
