At the moment, [name]Ethel[/name] is a nay for me. I agree, that the more one says it out loud, the better it sounds. It might be one of those names that with time gets more use. [name]Edith[/name] is an old name that I now love, that used to feel so dated and old-ladyish to me. Also, I’m a science major in college and [name]Ethel[/name] reminds of me of Ethanol and [name]Ethyl[/name], unfortunately.

I agree with this

And this :frowning:

[name]Ethel[/name] was the name of my grandmother’s best friend growing up. While I’ve only heard great things about her, I just can’t bring myself to like the name. Hearing my mom talk about “Auntie [name]Ethel[/name]” reminds me of the decrepit Auntie [name]Muriel[/name] in the [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] books–definitely a dated name that I can’t see coming back any time soon.

hahaha poor [name]Ethel[/name]. Growing up, my mom used to lie to me about her middle name and told me that her mn was Egg. LMFAO That’s how much she LOVES [name]Ethel[/name]!! <3 hahaha

I still think it has a sweet sound to it… I’m not a science person, so that stuff didn’t occur to me, but I see it now for sure.

[name]Ethel[/name] is a lovely name I can’t understand why you wouldn’t like it if you like vintage names especially ones like [name]Maud[/name] and [name]Mabel[/name].

My grandma’s name is [name]Ethel[/name] and even though it may look like a cute vintage name, it gets annoying and is hard to say… she goes by her middle name; [name]Fern[/name].

[name]Love[/name].
I kind of like awkward knobbly names.

I definitely agree with that…

I definitely agree with that…[/quote]
I do as well… It’s lovely in an [name]Enid[/name]/[name]Maud[/name]/[name]Mabel[/name]/[name]Sonya[/name]/[name]Thelma[/name] kind of way. Perfectly vintage and clunky with loads of character. Plus, it means ‘[name]Noble[/name]’. Doesn’t get better IMHO! ^^

[name]Ethel[/name] comes from Old English ”el meaning “noble.” This element has spawned many other names such as [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]

I think it’s a sweet name… my dog is named [name]Ethel[/name]. She’s a boarder terrier, and grey and whiskery - like most other Ethels these days.
