The Gal gals

It looks like this little one is going to have a [name_u]Gal[/name_u]- name, there are just so many of them that we like…Could you help us choose? These girls are so similar, and yet I can’t pick just one which annoys me.

[name_f]Galatea[/name_f]
According to the myth, [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] was the name [name_m]Ovid[/name_m]'s Pygmalion gave to the sculpture he had carved out of ivory. It was so beautiful that he wished for a bride who would be “the living likeness of his ivory girl”. [name_f]Aphrodite[/name_f] granted Pygmalion’s wish and transformed the statue into a woman.
I like the peculiar meaning, “she who is milk-white”, and the connection to the final scene of [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s The [name_u]Winter[/name_u]'s Tale which inspired me to use [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] as my first daughter’s middle name. My only concern is that I can totally imagine people mispronouncing it as “ga-la-tee”.

[name_f]Galilea[/name_f]
[name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is a region in northern [name_m]Israel[/name_m], and the Sea of [name_f]Galilee[/name_f] is a lake so gorgeous that [name_m]Flavius[/name_m] [name_m]Josephus[/name_m] called it “the ambition of Nature”. It’s believed that much of the ministry of [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] occurred on the shores of it.
I sort of feel like [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is a more familiar form of [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] without the pronunciation issues, ha ha.

Galadriel
Galadriel is a Tolkien name; she was a beautiful, strong and smart daughter of Finarfin, Lady of Lórien, the “greatest of elven women”. Because of her wisdom and power, she played a great role in the history of Middle-earth. I think she’s a good role model, but would her name be too much since one of our son’s middle names is Faramir?

[name_f]Galina[/name_f]
I love that [name_f]Galina[/name_f] is simple and easy to pronounce, and it also honors my heritage as it’s a popular Ukrainian name. My favorite nickname for [name_f]Galina[/name_f] is [name_f]Gala[/name_f], like [name_m]Paul[/name_m] Éluard’s wife and [name_m]Salvador[/name_m] [name_m]Dal[/name_m]í’s muse, an influential figure in the history of surrealism. The only thing that bothers me is that [name_f]Galina[/name_f] might be a little plain next to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m].

I love [name_f]Galina[/name_f], on its own and as a heritage name. So pretty! I really don’t think it is plain.

[name_f]Galina[/name_f] for sure.

I love [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] and [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]! Both are so lovely and flowy, and I think they go wonderfully with your older kids. I feel like people are likely to get the pronunciation of [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] because of [name_m]Galileo[/name_m], and I don’t think [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] is too difficult to figure out.

[name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is beautiful.

[name_f]Galilea[/name_f] would definitely be my first choice. Beautiful and interesting without being too overwhelming of a name.

[name_f]Galina[/name_f] would be my second choice, although I will say it made me think of [name_f]Galena[/name_f], Illinois. It also makes me think of the word “galinha”, meaning chicken, in Portuguese, although I think you can rest assured almost no one else would ever think of that (and it is only how it looks, it doesn’t actually sound very similar).

[name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is lovely. I also like Galadriel but probably more so as a middle name.

[name_f]Galina[/name_f]! Very sweet

I love [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]! I remember hearing it on a commercial a few years ago and thought it was one of the most beautiful/unique names ever.

I agree that it has a familiarity to it. I don’t think spelling or pronouncing it will be hard for others, compared to the other names you have listed.

Oh my goodness, I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Galina[/name_f]. I had forgotten about it for so long, but it is stunning. That would be my pick for you. I don’t think it is plain at all, and in fact I think it is perfect with [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Endymion[/name_m].

[name_f]Galatea[/name_f] is my first choice! I also like [name_f]Galilea[/name_f], although I prefer [name_f]Galilee[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]! I really like the flow and how it could have the nickname [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Leia[/name_f] or [name_f]Layla[/name_f].
[name_f]Galina[/name_f] is sweet too and I don’t think it’s too plain

[name_f]Galatea[/name_f] is definitely my favourite! She’s so ethereal and beautiful just like your other children’s names  [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is lovely too, but 'm not sure if it’s pronounced ‘gal-ih-lay-uh’ or ‘gal-ih-lee’.

This is harder to choose than I’d thought. All gorgeous choices, but in the end, I guess I am drawn more to either [name_f]Galatea[/name_f] or [name_f]Galina[/name_f]. [name_f]Galina[/name_f]'s not plain at all, it’s so pretty and sounds wonderful next to [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Galilea[/name_f]! So light and airy, lots of nickname potential, and sounds pretty familiar because of [name_m]Galileo[/name_m].

The other names sound clunky to me and [name_f]Galina[/name_f] makes me think of chickens.

[name_f]Galatea[/name_f] is awesome with your other kids names. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. My second pick is [name_f]Galilea[/name_f].

Thanks guys, you’re very helpful! Looks like [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] is winning!

gia.berry; Thanks, you are too sweet!

[name_f]Galilea[/name_f] and [name_f]Galina[/name_f] are by far my favorites!

I love [name_f]Galilea[/name_f], it’s so pretty and goes well with your other children’s names.
