We are in the home stretch now! 2 weeks until my due date and we are still refining the list of girl names. I wanted to post a second time because the input has been incredibly helpful. My husband and I have been discussing names round the clock so fresh ears and eyes are welcome!! I am especially curious what you think of the combinations below with our last name, its Lessing. Also, both [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Jean[/name] are names that would potentially honor my parents in a personal way but we are not locked into using them…
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name] (meaning of [name]Lola[/name] is not great, lady of sorrows)
[name]Indigo[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] nn [name]Indi[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Jean[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Shalom[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] Amarise (ah-mah-reese)
[name]Amaya[/name] [name]Reese[/name]
[name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]
Really like [name]Lola[/name] and would not let the meaning of the nn bother me but I am not so sure about [name]Lola[/name] Lessing…I keep saying it out loud and cannot decide if it is too much ‘L’ for my ears.
I love [name]Amaya[/name] - have only known of 1 (but spelled [name]Amaia[/name]) and her mom is Spanish Basque. [name]Amaya[/name] Lessing is lovely.
I think that all the 3 (or 4) syllable names sound better with your last name that the 2 syllable names do but the 2 syllable names sound okay.
I really like [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name]. They sound fresh and soft and pretty. [name]Lola[/name] is cute too. For the others, [name]Indigo[/name], [name]Shalom[/name], and Amarise are a bit too out there for me, [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Naomi[/name] are sweet though. [name]Reese[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] are rather trendy. Good luck!
I really love [name]Lola[/name]! And [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name], nn [name]Lola[/name], is very sweet. I wouldn’t be bothered by the meaning of [name]Lola[/name]–it was originally seen as a nn for [name]Dolores[/name], which means “sorrows”, so the meaning is directly related to the full name. But people use [name]Lola[/name] for all sorts of names now ([name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Lauren[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Chloe[/name], [name]Willow[/name], etc., to name a few), so I would think that [name]Lola[/name] would claim the direct meaning of those names in those situations rather than [name]Dolores[/name]'s, since you’re using [name]Magnolia[/name] (or [name]Penelope[/name], or [name]Charlotte[/name], or whatever) instead.
I really like [name]Amaya[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name], too, and [name]Ava[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] is just adorable. I’m not in love with the [name]Amaya[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] combos, but if I had to pick, it’d be [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Shalom[/name]. Since [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Jean[/name] are meaningful to you, would you consider [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Jean[/name] or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]? I think those are lovely.
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name] is my vote, it flows so perfectly! I think it gives off a classic Southern [name]Belle[/name] kind of feel and is much prettier than [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Jean[/name], which doesn’t seem to have the same style. I really prefer the more stand-out name of [name]Magnolia[/name] in the first position… I think that [name]Ava[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] just falls flat in comparison. I also wouldn’t worry about the meaning of [name]Lola[/name] since it will just be a nickname and not her actual name. [name]Magnolia[/name] and [name]Jean[/name] both have great meanings that a little girl could be proud of.
[name]Indigo[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is my preference over [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name], because it just seems to give off a more feminine and also naturey vibe to me.
And I like [name]Ruby[/name] Amarise better than both [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Shalom[/name] and [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Reese[/name]. Good luck! =]
I absolutely love [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name] nn [name]Lola[/name]. I particularly like that it honors your parents but even without that connection this would be my favorite by far.
Second choice:
[name]Indigo[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] nn [name]Indi[/name].
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name]! sounds great and even better that I has personal meaning to you. I also like [name]Naomi[/name] [name]Jean[/name] and [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].
I absolutely love your first two choices and Lola is adorable! The meaning (Lady of Sorrows) is very profound in a way, as women all have a definate knowledge of emotions.
Magnolia Jean nn Lola (meaning of Lola is not great, lady of sorrows)
Indigo Pearl nn Indi
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - my fave. I love the blend of quirky and traditional.
[name]Indigo[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - although this combo flows well, two colours in a combo is one too many. [name]Pearl[/name] is a colour as well as a gem.
[name]Naomi[/name] [name]Jean[/name] - This has a spunky and sassy sound to it. It also has a Southern vibe.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Shalom[/name] - This combo is an unusual and unexpected pairing. I like it!
[name]Ruby[/name] Amarise - A little too much “ee” sound for me.
[name]Amaya[/name] [name]Reese[/name] - OK but [name]Reese[/name] is kind of harsh with the pretty and gentle sound of [name]Amaya[/name].
[name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - This is lovely!
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] - too many a’s
Faves: [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name], [name]Amaya[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Shalom[/name].
I love [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name]. It’s pretty perfect. I think [name]Lola[/name] is fine as long as it doesn’t bother you, and it should be fine with your last name (though I’ll admit that I like alliteration). There are always other nn’s that could work if it ends up bothering you, or if [name]Lola[/name] doesn’t seem to fit. [name]Nola[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Mags[/name], [name]Meg[/name], even [name]Aggie[/name].
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Jean[/name] is perfection (though again, in Switzerland, you could consider spelling it [name]Jeanne[/name]). [name]Even[/name] if it didn’t honor both of your parents, it would be my choice.
[name]Lola[/name] comes from [name]Maria[/name] [name]Dolores[/name], [name]Mary[/name] of the Sorrows, which was bestowed on little girls born in [name]Easter[/name] week to commemorate the Pieta. In a time when infant mortality and child mortality were sadly all too common, many everyday women related to the Virgin [name]Mary[/name] by remembering that she, too, lost a child, and they sorrowed together. It’s a name with a very deep, spiritual meaning.
