Naming babies are HARD. But #2 has been even harder than the first one. We don’t have a clue what to name our baby, if it’s a girl. It feels pretty much impossible to find just one name, and especially one that we both like AND are suitable for a little girl as well as an adult woman.
Would you mind sharing your comments and thoughts about the following names? These are some we’re thinking about, but we can’t seem to agree on THE name. I already have a son named [name]Drake[/name], and we don’t want anything too popular. Surname will be Wilde.
[name]Ariana[/name] - is this too bland? [name]Adelaide[/name] - Too different from [name]Drake[/name]? [name]Billie[/name] - this was going to be my name if dad had gotten his wish come through. I like [name]Billie[/name], and I see it as a way of honoring my father. But…too nicknamey? Boyish? [name]Bellamy[/name] - my #1 right now [name]Leanora[/name] - I like this (as well as [name]Leonora[/name]) but would it always get mistaken for [name]Leonora[/name]? I would probably use [name]Lea[/name] as a nickname [name]Mackenzie[/name] - girl or boy? [name]Micaiah[/name] - this was the girls name I had picked for [name]Drake[/name], if he had been a girl. Is it still possible to use, or does it, kind of, belong to [name]Drake[/name]? [name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - does it work on a girl?
I [name]Love[/name] [name]Ariana[/name] - though I slightly prefer [name]Arianna[/name], I don’t think it’s bland at all, far far from it
[name]Adelaide[/name] - it is different from [name]Drake[/name] but I don’t see a problem with it.
[name]Billie[/name] - yes nicknamey, yes boyish, but I quite like it, and it’d be nice with a very feminine middle name. [name]Billie[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Billie[/name] [name]Victoria[/name]?
I don’t really like [name]Bellamy[/name] for a girl, or [name]Wesley[/name] at all! [name]Wesley[/name] is a very male name in my head, and the girls have already stolen too many.
I prefer [name]Eleanor[/name] / [name]Eleanora[/name] to [name]Leanora[/name], I think it probably would get mistaken for [name]Leonora[/name] which would be a lifetime of spelling corrections for your daughter.
[name]Mackenzie[/name] I like on both genders, I think [name]Mack[/name] is a nice nickname for a boy, and [name]Ken[/name] / [name]Kenzie[/name] for a girl.
[name]Micaiah[/name] isn’t my style, I don’t think it “belongs” to [name]Drake[/name], I know a family who were set on having a boy, but they had two girls before and even though they planned a boys name the two times before they still used that name when their son finally arrives.
[name]Ariana[/name] - I like this, very beautiful and lovely. It’s the Italian version of [name]Ariadne[/name] (maybe this instead?), and if you know Greek mythology you know she was anything but bland.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name], but I think it’s quite different from [name]Drake[/name], yes. It’s a calm poised rich girl name.
[name]Billie[/name] - I like [name]Billie[/name], very cute. I think with a very feminine and stong middle it is amazing (like actor [name]Eric[/name] [name]Dane[/name]'s daughter [name]Billie[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name])
[name]Bellamy[/name] - this is boy for me. But it’s pretty.
[name]Leanora[/name] - I think people would assume it was [name]Leonora[/name]. Pretty though
[name]Mackenzie[/name] - [name]Both[/name], but not in the same cool class as [name]Drake[/name] [name]Zephyr[/name].
[name]Micaiah[/name] - I think it’s fine, and my favourite as a sister for [name]Drake[/name].
[name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - Boy boy boy, all boy. Very romantic and lovely though.
[name]Halcyon[/name], [name]Roxana[/name] or [name]Arietta[/name]/Arrietty?
I like [name]Ariana[/name] - But would [name]Drake[/name] and [name]Ariana[/name] be a bit too [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]? (OK his name is [name]Draco[/name], but I think there are others who would key on to it too).
I don’t really like [name]Wesley[/name] on a girl and I’ve never been keen on [name]Mackenzie[/name]. [name]Bellamy[/name] & Mikaiah isn’t really in my taste either. However, I don’t think [name]Micaiah[/name] belongs to [name]Drake[/name]. He’s a boy and he has his name. If you still love it as much as you did with your son, then go for it! Use it! We’ve picked our names from the same “name pool” both times and will for the third time too because that’s the names we love!
However, I absolutely love [name]Leonora[/name]/[name]Leanora[/name]. I do think you’ll have to spell [name]Leanora[/name] quite a bit, but if you don’t mind that then I don’t see the problem. It’s got lots of great nn potential too: [name]Lea[/name] could be used with [name]Leonora[/name] as well! And there is [name]Nor[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] too. [name]Even[/name] [name]Nell[/name], if you’re really creative (I know a [name]Leonora[/name] who get’s called [name]Nellie[/name] actually - I don’t really know where that came from).
[name]Leonora[/name] has to be my favourite on your list and I think it flows well with [name]Drake[/name].
Agreed…we’re struggling with a girls’ name for our third right now, and it’s not getting any easier with time. I love your son’s name, though! So cool.
[name]Ariana[/name]: It’s a lovely name, but it seems a little incomplete and yeah, a little bland. I think I prefer something like [name]Adriana[/name].
[name]Adelaide[/name]: Actually, I love this and think it sounds really cool with [name]Drake[/name]. This is my favorite of your list.
[name]Billie[/name]: I might be biased as my husband’s name is [name]Billy[/name], but I definitely see this as too masculine for a girl. It’s also too nickname-y, in my opinion.
[name]Bellamy[/name]: I don’t think I’ve ever heard this before, but it’s cool!
[name]Leanora[/name]: It looks misspelled to me. [name]Do[/name] you dislike [name]Leah[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]?
[name]Mackenzie[/name]: Too masculine, and too overdone, I think.
[name]Micaiah[/name]: [name]How[/name] is this pronounced? I prefer [name]Micah[/name], I think.
[name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie: I think it’s too masculine.
I really like [name]Billie[/name] too - and I don’t think it’s too boyish at all! [name]Just[/name] think of the lovely [name]Billie[/name] [name]Holiday[/name]! She oozed femininity! Speaking of, her real name was actually [name]Eleonora[/name]!
[name]Adelaide[/name], I do like it. But it doesn’t wow me!
Has to be [name]Billie[/name] or [name]Leonora[/name] for me! =D
[name]Ariana[/name] – I love [name]Ariana[/name] (and do prefer it with the one “n”). I don’t find it bland at all. In fact I find it sassy, sweet, feminine, and strong all at the same time.
[name]Adelaide[/name] – I do think it’s way to different compared to [name]Drake[/name]. Plus I just don’t think it has the same feminine elegance as many other names
[name]Billie[/name] – Too boyish imo. I also find this stereotypically southern so that might cause some teasing
[name]Bellamy[/name] – I don’t see feminine in this choice at all. Reminds me of bologna.
[name]Leanora[/name] – I love this and prefer it completely over [name]Leonora[/name]! [name]Lea[/name] is also an adorable nn
[name]Mackenzie[/name] – It’s a girl’s name to me. A boring one, but a girl’s name none-the-less
[name]Micaiah[/name] – Doesn’t sound right was [name]Drake[/name] (but no, it doesn’t belong to [name]Drake[/name]).
[name]Wesley[/name]/Weslie – I do not think this would work on a girl.
My choices would therefore me [name]Ariana[/name] or [name]Leanora[/name] (or [name]Mackenzie[/name], cause I do think it goes with [name]Drake[/name] despite being a little boring).
Jess0044 - what is it that makes a name boring? This is something I’ve been thinking about, and after seeing the names in your signature I asked myself “what makes [name]Mackenzie[/name] more boring that [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Jack[/name]?”. [name]Don[/name]'t get me wrong, I love [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Jack[/name]. But they’re not exactly unusual choices. Is it because [name]Mackenzie[/name] has been very popular for the last few years, while [name]Jack[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] (for example) has been popular for a longer period of time? [name]Just[/name] curious to hear some other opinions on this.
[name]Ariana[/name] - Is not too bland. It is a pretty name and pairs well with [name]Drake[/name] and your surname.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - This is different, stylistically, from [name]Drake[/name], but I think it still works. Especially if you were to call her [name]Addy[/name].
[name]Billie[/name] - I love the idea of this one because it is adorable and honors your dad. If you feel it is a bit nick-namey you could always use [name]Billie[/name] as a nn for something else - [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Willow[/name], [name]Willa[/name]…
[name]Bellamy[/name] - I’m not sure about this one. It just isn’t my style, I suppose, so I just can’t see it on a baby.
[name]Leanora[/name] - I prefer [name]Leonora[/name], to be honest, and she would likely get called that a lot anyway (until I read your note I thought this was just an alternate spelling of [name]Leonora[/name]). I suppose if you called her [name]Lea[/name] it wouldn’t matter as much. [name]Drake[/name] and [name]Lea[/name] are cute together.
[name]Mackenzie[/name] - To be brutally honest… this name is so dated to me. It is not ready for a comeback. Sorry.
[name]Micaiah[/name] - I dont think this name “belongs” to [name]Drake[/name], but I do think there are better names on your list.
[name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - Well, I am biased, because this is one of my favorite boy’s names, so I just can’t see it on a girl. If you did use it, please use the [name]Wesley[/name] spelling. Weslie looks weak.
If I had to choose a favorite, I think I would go with [name]Billie[/name], because I love the family connection. My least favorite is [name]Bellamy[/name].
[name]Ariana[/name] - [name]Long[/name] Island accent, frosted lipstick. Sorry! It’s a pretty name, but it’s been [name]Gabriella[/name]-ized I think.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - I’m not wild about [name]Adelaide[/name] bc it sounds like “addled” to me. [name]Ada[/name] is a great nn though. I don’t think it’s too close to [name]Drake[/name].
[name]Billie[/name] - I love [name]Billie[/name] and was considering it as a nn for a possible [name]Wylda[/name]. But I think with Wilde, it’s very close to [name]Billy[/name] [name]Wilder[/name].
[name]Bellamy[/name] - It’s surnameish to me. Has a nice bouncy sound, but it feels a little ungrounded to me, unless it’s a family surname?
[name]Leanora[/name] - This one’s a winner! I prefer [name]Leonora[/name] or -gasp- [name]Leonor[/name]. Beautiful [name]Leonor[/name]. You could have a [name]Leonora[/name] and call her [name]Lea[/name]- perfectly acceptable, almost identical pronunciation.
[name]Mackenzie[/name] - Trendorama
[name]Micaiah[/name] - I like the dark sparkle of this name, and the K sound with [name]Drake[/name]. It’s lovely, and certainly useable still.
[name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - I think of The [name]Princess[/name] [name]Bride[/name]. Masculine to me.
So, I vote for [name]Leonora[/name] (or [name]Leonor[/name]) and [name]Micaiah[/name].
[name]Ariana[/name] - a great name, but a little too frilly for me personally [name]Adelaide[/name] - I think [name]Adelaide[/name] is a great name, not too different from [name]Drake[/name] and has some great nn options [name]Billie[/name] - I think it’s a cute nn but too masculine for me to be a proper name, could be a nn for [name]Bellamy[/name], or [name]Wilhelmina[/name], [name]Willow[/name], [name]Willa[/name], [name]Sybil[/name], [name]Abilene[/name], [name]Jubilee[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], possibly [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Abalina[/name], [name]Abelia[/name], Bellona (maybe too similar to Bologna), [name]Belinda[/name]… [name]Bellamy[/name] - my #1 right now. This is my favorite from your list, and could get the nn [name]Billie[/name] [name]Leanora[/name] - sounds a little dated to me, but that might be because I’ve personally known several great older ladies named [name]Leanora[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] - I like [name]Mackenzie[/name] best for a boy [name]Micaiah[/name] -It’s fun to say, but I prefer [name]Bellamy[/name] [name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - too masculine for me
[name]Ariana[/name] - it’s very pretty, but not as spunky as your other choices.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - I think it’s lovely, it is very different from [name]Drake[/name], but with a nn it could work. I like Dela and Lady and [name]Addy[/name]
[name]Billie[/name] - this was my grandma’s name. I think it could work well with [name]Drake[/name]. If you’re worried about it being masculine what about using [name]Willa[/name] with nn [name]Billie[/name]?
[name]Bellamy[/name] - this has a negative connotation for me, like Bedlam and calumny together…it is a pretty sound, just doesn’t attract me.
[name]Leanora[/name] - very pretty, I like all the nn options.
[name]Mackenzie[/name] - I’m not a fan of any of the Mc/[name]Mac[/name] names.
[name]Micaiah[/name] - very interesting, I’ve never heard it before. It’s a pretty sound. I actually like it.
[name]Wesley[/name] / Weslie - I don’t like this for a girl, what about Whinley/Winley
I suppose bland would have been better word choice than boring. I don’t think there’s anything interesting about the sounds in the name [name]Mackenzie[/name], if that makes sense (and yes, the increased use of those exact same sounds probably adds to that fact). [name]Hope[/name] that makes sense!
My favorites with [name]Drake[/name] from your list are [name]Ariana[/name] (nn [name]Ari[/name]?) and [name]Adelaide[/name] ([name]Addy[/name] is very cute nn). I agree that [name]Billie[/name] could work too, but like the suggestion of [name]Willa[/name] nn [name]Billie[/name] or putting a pretty feminine name after it-- maybe [name]Billie[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name]? With brother named [name]Drake[/name], this little girl needs a strong name that can stand its ground.
My favourite is either [name]Ariana[/name] or [name]Bellamy[/name] with your sons name. [name]Romilly[/name] is similar to [name]Bellamy[/name], and it has cute nicknames and avoids the nickname of [name]Bella[/name] if you’re sick of hearing that name in the playground. Also, [name]Lenore[/name] is a very pretty variation of [name]Leanora[/name].
It’s SO hard to choose a name for this little baby. Last pregnancy I had settled on [name]Micaiah[/name] (baby’s father didn’t get much to say about it haha) if it was a girl, but we had a boy and ended up naming him at the hospital. I was hoping to avoid that, and have a one, or maybe two, names before the baby is born.
Thanks for the help everyone. You have all helped us out, but in some ways also made it harder… Thank God we have a whil left to figure out this mess…
I don’t find [name]Ariana[/name] bland. I think it’s girly and feminine. I love [name]Aria[/name] as a nickname or [name]Ari[/name], even, if you’re the nicknaming sort. I’m also a huge fan of [name]Adelaide[/name].
With [name]Billie[/name], I think you could use it as a nickname for a whole slew of more substantial names, really anything beginning with the “bil-” sound.
