I feel like all of those names that our parents overused on our generation (ok assuming alot of you are 20/30 yrs old!) are off limits. I really love a lot of them though…
gogeous 80s & 90s popular names
For me I can’t get past those names because those are the names of the girls that were stuck up and rude to me. I like [name]Amy[/name] the most out of those because I had a friend in Elementary school named [name]Aimee[/name], and she was nice.
I like some names from my parents generation of the 50’s-70’s, and a lot of other people think those names are off limits.
The names are all too familiar for me, and I know too many girls by the names that were top 10 in the 80s I could never use them. Guaranteed our kids, kids, will be using them as vintage names haha.
To me (and most other people in their 30s, I’m sure) those names tend to sound a bit stale just because we’ve heard them a lot and probably know a lot of now-adults with those names…but the truth is, an [name]Amy[/name] or [name]Heather[/name] will probably stand out and sound fresh in a sea of little kids named [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name]…On your list I like [name]Heather[/name] a lot, and I think [name]Sarah[/name] is a classic that can span generations.
I actually know two little girls born in the last 4 years (two different families) named [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Jamie[/name]…at the time I thought it was weird because the names were such staples of my generation, but now that I’m trying to find a name for my own daughter-to-be (and seeing all the same trying-too-hard, vintage-chic names over and over and over) it kind of makes sense.
My name is [name]Sara[/name], and I agree it’s classic. I would use it on a future dd if I didn’t think it would be confusing, but maybe in the middle. I know a baby named [name]Sara[/name] [name]Grace[/name], and I find it so refreshing. I also like [name]Amy[/name]. I love [name]Elizabeth[/name] but not [name]Liz[/name]. [name]Lizzie[/name], yes.
Also in this theme
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Jamie[/name]
[name]Jennifer[/name]
[name]Jessica[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Dana[/name]
[name]Danielle[/name]
[name]Monica[/name]
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Tiffany[/name]
[name]Cara[/name]
[name]Tara[/name]
[name]Megan[/name]
[name]Caitlyn[/name]
[name]Kristin[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]
None I would use, but it’s interesting to think of them just for the sound/meaning and form a different opinion of them by picturing them on a little one.
[name]Jessica[/name] is actually really popular in the UK right now… #12 in 2011, down from #1 back in 2005.
I’m a [name]Meaghan[/name], and was always 1 of at least 2 in my class. Although I hear it more often on little girls today in my area, I doubt any of the other names would be to popular in grade school today. I wouldn’t be afraid to use them if they were my taste.
I don’t see [name]Sarah[/name] or [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Liz[/name] as being dated. These are timeless names. [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], and [name]Heather[/name], most definitely.
I still love [name]Amy[/name], the [name]Little[/name] Women connection helps.
But I back away from many of the same…
[name]Jessica[/name] definitely
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Amanda[/name]
[name]Caitlin[/name]/[name]Kaitlyn[/name]/etc
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Allison[/name]
[name]Alyssa[/name]
[name]Chelsea[/name]
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Tiffany[/name]
[name]Liz[/name] (not [name]Elizabeth[/name], just [name]Liz[/name])
I love [name]Amy[/name] too! I didn’t know many of them in school, my classes were fillred with…
[name]Stephanie[/name]
[name]Kayla[/name]
[name]Katie[/name]
[name]Amber[/name]
[name]Rachel[/name]
[name]Sara/name
[name]Elizabeth[/name] (all diff nns though)
[name]Jessica[/name]
[name]Jennifer[/name] (in 1st grade we had 3 in a class of 15! They were called [name]Jen[/name], [name]Jenny[/name], & [name]Jennifer[/name].)
[name]Caitlyn[/name]/[name]Katelyn[/name]
[name]Alexa[/name]/[name]Alexandria[/name] both nn [name]Alex[/name]
[name]Heather[/name]
I really like [name]Megan[/name], though I know it’s quite dated to the 80s/90s. Same with [name]Gemma[/name], which was pretty popular in [name]Britain[/name] a generation ago. I would consider both names but they are quite dated, though I don’t think I would let that put me off a name if I loved it that much.
I actually really love [name]Amy[/name], though it is too dated for me to use. I have a friend called [name]Amy[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] which I think is pretty. I also find [name]Katie[/name] (just [name]Katie[/name], no longer full name) very dated, I remember knowing a lot of [name]Katie[/name]'s growing up.
I really like [name]Alison[/name] & [name]Monica[/name]!
For some reason my school had a few called [name]Erica[/name]…is that a 90s name?
[name]Erin[/name] is gorgeous…I would consider using it if it wasn’t an exes name!
I feel like [name]Liz[/name] & [name]Alex[/name] are in this theme even though [name]Elizabeth[/name] & [name]Alexandra[/name] are so classic…now they would be [name]Eliza[/name] & [name]Alexa[/name] maybe?
[name]Jenna[/name] is really cute too, but tied to this era.
I think [name]Lauren[/name] is so chic but so overused during this time!
I love both [name]Megan[/name] and [name]Rachel[/name] too, tho they might be seen as somewhat dated. And [name]Lauren[/name], which is one of my favs!
I also think [name]Kelly[/name] is really nice sound-wise…actually one of the few K names I can get into…it just feels crisp to me if that makes any sense!
I love the name [name]Heather[/name]…especially because it has a very similar sound to [name]Harper[/name], which is becoming very trendy and popular. I think it would be a fine choice now! As for the other names, I feel like they are usable as well, except for [name]Amanda[/name]. I have never liked that name. Sorry to all the [name]Amanda[/name]'s out there! It’s just my opinion.
