First, I’m just going to say thank you to everyone who reads this.
Okay so I have the definite first name for my main character, which is Phoenyx (shortened occasionally to [name]Nyx[/name]). She is seventeen and lives in the future. A personality description of her is: Phoenyx is normally quiet and somewhat shy. She is guarded and isn’t the type to walk up and start chatting but will if it is a social necessity. She angers fairly slowly but when she is, she will stay that way in a cold-angry mood. She often will correct people but gains no pleasure from it. She also will talk back, mostly to people she dislikes or irritate her. She does not joke often. She is disgusted by oppression and ignorance. She believes in the importance of the past and the future.
I have, in my opinion, a great first name but she is lacking a last name to match. Last name can be anything but preferably something that isn’t too extreme and has something with a background. Again, thanks.
I like bailibsmum’s suggestion of [name]Reid[/name] and [name]Stone[/name]. I might add [name]Wilson[/name] to the list, Phoenyx [name]Wilson[/name] sounds nice to my ears. Something with more syllables might also sound nice. Phoenyx Carrington sort of has a certain ring to it?
I adore [name]Reid[/name] and [name]Stone[/name]! [name]Wilson[/name] is up there too! I considered the name [name]Steele[/name] for a little but [name]Stone[/name] flows better. Thank you all for the the suggestions!
Bailibsmum: I’m not even close to being finished but I will try and post parts of it that I do have. I’m in the process of making a grand plan of characters and countries. As it’s set in the future, there is a lot of aspects I have to create. I’ll try to update you if I do.
And I know how annoying it is when people critique decided names, but why replace the i with a y? [name]Phoenix[/name] and [name]Nix[/name] sound exactly the same, plus ‘[name]Nix[/name]’ has that added meaning of ‘negate’ to it. It’s also a personal pet peeve of mine, I’ve never understood this obsession with the letter y…
I replaced the i with an y because it is a reference to the Greek goddess/personification of night. I did it mainly for symbolism and also because I feel it makes the name seem more feminine than [name]Phoenix[/name] because [name]Nyx[/name] (the deity) was normally portrayed as female. Phoenyx cross dresses often because she has numerous scars covering her body. For where she lives, it’s easier to be a scarred boy than a girl. In “my future” [name]Phoenix[/name]/Phoenyx is a predominately male name so she goes mostly by [name]Nyx[/name] when not cross dressing.
I think you should try Phoenyx Stark, like the [name]Marvel[/name] Comics character [name]Tony[/name] Stark, and maybe she can be a nerd geek, and hopefully find some friends that’ll accept her.
