Have you heard any names lately that caught your eye outside of NB forums?
I’ve heard a few (none that I personally like) that made me do a double take. I met a Siseneg (sis-en-eh-gee which is [name_u]Genesis[/name_u] backwards) at work and two babies were born that I saw FB announcements for. A girl named U’nique and a boy named Martial.
While I’m not a fan of any of these I thought they were interesting and wondered if anyone else has had some unusual name encounters :3
Well, I’ve been meeting more toddlers recently with unique spellings, like Tzion and Nykole. Coming into camp on [name_f]Monday[/name_f] will be a Yanessa, Yadele, and a [name_m]Lyon[/name_m].
I mentioned her on another thread, but I taught a girl named [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] last week who refused to go by just her fn. [name_u]Love[/name_u]!
Some new adorable little dancers at my studio named [name_f]Sachi[/name_f] (I think this is how she spells it!) and [name_u]Harmony[/name_u]. I love their names a lot, I added [name_f]Sachi[/name_f] to my long girls list and [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] has been there for awhile! [name_u]Harmony[/name_u] may not be unusual, but I’ve never met a [name_f]Sachi[/name_f] before!
Yeah, I really think the names I’ve encountered are terrible. I mean, name your kid what you want, but did U’nique really need an apostrophe? Really? I’m a bit confused on Martial, I think she initially was going to use [name_m]Marshall[/name_m]. A bit disappointed she had to ruin (imo) a perfectly good name by using a word that sounds the same. Meh.
[name_f]Monday[/name_f] is interesting, not a weekday name I would expect since most people dislike Mondays. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce Tzion? [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_f]Plum[/name_f] sounds so sweet! My cousin is actually [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] We’ve always called her [name_f]Ginnie[/name_f] (jin-ee) and she is amazing!
I wasn’t saying I met a [name_f]Monday[/name_f], though I wouldn’t be surprised, seeing the popularity of [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] and [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. Tzion is pronounced [name_u]Zion[/name_u], just like Tzipporah/[name_f]Zipporah[/name_f]. I’ve seen the spelling in the Orthodox Jewish community, but this was the first time outside of it.
[name_m]Ah[/name_m] okay, gotcha. I’m a bit tired from work - sorry for misreading! That makes sense, I figured it was the [name_u]Zion[/name_u] pronunciation but wanted to double check.
I have to say, despite my dislike for some of my recent name finds I am a little relieved that people are a little more fearless with names. I like some unorthodox names and it makes me feel a bit more brave about using them. Although I’m sure I’ll get the “you named your kids what?” comments as well.
As of tonight, it would be [name_f]Adela[/name_f], since I went to see Woman in [name_m]Gold[/name_m]. I’ve always loved it, but seeing it in the film was stunning! I love [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] as well, but I might not be able to ever use it.
I’m also falling in love with [name_f]Kira[/name_f], even more so after learning it was the name of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Kira[/name_f] Kirillovna of Prussia. I figure if it’s fit for a princess, it’s pretty close to perfect! Only thing is its shorter than my other favourites.
This was a little while ago, but when I worked in a pre-school I looked after identical twins named [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f]! I thought that was the coolest sibset I had ever heard. Also, you don’t hear many girls’ called [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] today. So, it was awesome to find one, and I love that name, too. Also, [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] is okay, however, I prefer [name_u]Ashley[/name_u].
In the same pre-school I also interacted with another identical twins! They were both girls’ and they were named [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_f]Lacey[/name_f]. I thought that was pretty cool, as I had never met a girl named [name_m]Levi[/name_m] before, but it’s not a name I love, I was just surprised to see it on another gender which wasn’t a boy. [name_f]Lacey[/name_f] is okay, but it’s not a name I’m a huge fan of.
Yesterday I met the cutest little girl, her name was [name_f]Marianna[/name_f]! Stunning!! I love the name, it’s super close to my favorite, [name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Sachi[/name_f] is a Japanese name, meaning happiness. I’ve used for one of my stuff animals (a big dolphin). I’d love to meet one in real life though, it’s such a pretty name and I think it totally works outside Japan.
Yeah, [name_f]Sachi[/name_f] is pronounced (Sah-chee). I looked it up on Nameberry after I met her and it says its Japanese. Well, of course if that’s how she spells it then it is. I find it cute and spunky, I like it.
I just noticed that c@29 already answered the question, oh well.
I also met a girl named Summa this week. I think she was of [name_f]Indian[/name_f] heritage. It’s a pretty cool name, and although it may not be one of my personal favorites, it’s an uncommon gem.
