I’ve had both [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] on my extended list for quite of while, but I’ve never seriously consider either of them for a first name until now. Recently after reading a story with a character named [name_m]Leo[/name_m] it has started to appeal to me. I know most will suggest to just use [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a full name, but I personally prefer to use a longer name and have [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as the nickname. I’m now trying to decide which [name_m]Leo[/name_m]- name to start a middle name search for, but I’m having the hardest time picking one. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] has also been brought to my attention, so that’s THREE names now that I really like, but can’t choose between.
Which [name_m]Leo[/name_m]- name would you choose? Why?
I’m so very tempted to pick [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]… but I’m not sure how well it will work in today’s society. So, I’m going to say [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] if you’re feeling bold, [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] if, well, not so much.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]!! Absolutely. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is so tied to [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] Dicaprio and I don’t really like the name. [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is amazing but also a BIG name to pull off… [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] seems perfect to me. It’s dashing, smart. It reminds me [name_m]German[/name_m] royalty and (via [name_f]Sisi[/name_f]) of the mountains in Bayern. And I’m still hoping [name_m]Will[/name_m] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] will have a little [name_m]Leopold[/name_m].
I think I’d go for [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is a bit too old fashioned for me. But [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is a bit out there, maybe…
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is my favourite, though maybe a little…frilly for lack of a better word? But I think actor [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] DiCaprio has allowed it to have a more toned down, day-to-day hearing approach to the name.
Totally agree with this! I love [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]; only reason it’s not on my list is because I love [name_u]Lionel[/name_u] more! It’s royal, dashing and handsome!
That would be really cute; but I really want them to have an [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]. [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] - how incredibly adorable is that sibset!?! Then again, if they do use [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], it will shoot up in popularity and I won’t be able to use it! x
I love [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]! It’s old-fashioned but not so much so that it couldn’t work when he would have classmates named [name_m]Walter[/name_m] and [name_f]Mabel[/name_f]. I really want to love [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] because, like you, I like a longer form for nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but I can’t get past the ‘nard’ sound. [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is a little too outlandish for me personally, and too connected to “300.”
My favourite is [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]. I absolutely love it. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] has a great sound, feels handsome and really polished. It also has family connections for me too. [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is just gorgeous. However I do see the appeal in [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] which feels like a gentlemanly classic and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] which feels majestic and charming. Nevertheless [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] is my favourite.
I personally like [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] better because it’s more familiar and has great historical ties. [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is a little too old-fashioned and sounds a bit pretentious to me (though I do like it and it’s my second favorite of your options.) and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is way too “300” to me. Though I seem to remember a post on this site or a similar site where a poster was looking for a brother for her son [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m]. It seemed to fit her son well but it was hard finding a sibling name for him.
I feel that you could totally go with [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] after seeing that you named your cat [name_u]Zola[/name_u] Bastet. It seems to fit you/your style better.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] is my favourite by far. It’s uncommon but still recognizable. [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is okay, but it feels very Greek to me (unless you are Greek, in which case it works).
I like [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] But I know what you mean. There’s a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (Leosandro) in TSI and I like it far more now that I’ve written the book than before I wrote it.
I’d just go for the short and sweet [name_m]Leon[/name_m], but I’m one for picking the less bolder, more shorter options. However, with [name_m]Leon[/name_m] you’re most likely to just get [name_m]Leon[/name_m], and no [name_m]Leo[/name_m] nickname.
Because of this, I’d pick [name_m]Leonardo[/name_m]. [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] isn’t appealing to me and [name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] is way too out there.
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m] – I think of [name_m]Aldo[/name_m] [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], which is a great relation!
[name_m]Leonidas[/name_m] – is tempting, but the “idas” ending makes me think of the “itus” medical suffix! Still, I think this is a fun one.
[name_m]Leonardo[/name_m] – The most familiar of the three, with a little more pizazz than [name_m]Leonard[/name_m]. I like it.
So I like them in that order. If I really wanted to have the nickname [name_m]Leo[/name_m] though I would consider [name_m]Leander[/name_m] or [name_m]Leandro[/name_m]. There are also many names that end in “lio” that would obviously work. I also quite like [name_m]Galileo[/name_m], but that’s a weighty name for sure.
I have always loved the name [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], but I’ve never considered using it. Maybe I will! Anyway, [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] gets my vote.
