[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
So, one thing that I notice is a lot of people have those names that they’re not sure whether they like or not. This thread is for people to figure it out! So, one poster will say a name they’re unsure of, and the next person will convince them why to like it- I think that we probably shouldn’t include an option to try to dissuade people from liking a name, because it’s always better to like a name than to not like it- that’s obvious- and so the point is to get people to go all in with liking the name. Example:
P1: [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
P2: I love it! It’s a beautiful flower, the name is pretty rare, the smooth Z has such a nice feel to it, and the nickname [name_f]Zalie[/name_f] is adorable! (etc. adding imagery and connections and whatever else you want). The next name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
etc.
So I’ll start with [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. Thanks!
Sophie is lovely! It has soft sounds and is feminine without ending in “a”. It’s familiar and classic with a long history. The meaning ‘wisdom’ is also a wonderful one for a girl. It sounds both modern and nostalgic.
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is so beautiful and ethereal! I always picture an elvin princess running through the forest! I love the way it rolls off the tounge! There’s literally nothing negative I could say about this name!
Classic, handsome, regal, and never goes out of style! [name_m]Just[/name_m] read the nb description. very wonderful namesakes too. Sounds regal without sounding snobby…and the nicknames are so cute!I mean [name_u]Pip[/name_u]? [name_m]How[/name_m] adorable is that? [name_u]Phil[/name_u] and [name_u]Flip[/name_u] are also cool. [name_m]Philip[/name_m] is just marvelous!
Gorgeous, classic, and witchy too! It rolls off the tongue super nicely, short and sweet with a lot of (well) sibilance which I find always allows for a really nice flow. Overall it’s great!
Nina follows the classic feminine style of names ending in ‘a,’ but isn’t too popular or overused. It still feels fresh! It is also easy to pronounce and very intuitive in a number of languages. I believe it also means ‘grace,’ which is a lovely meaning!
Orla is an exquisite name with a very magical vibe and one of the most lovely meanings: ‘golden princess’… it doesn’t get better than that! Uncommon and intriguing, but easy to pronounce and spell, [name_f]Orla[/name_f] is right in the sweet spot. Also a lovely way to honour Celtic roots. You can’t go wrong with [name_f]Orla[/name_f].
Seraphina is soft, feminine, and magical. It has the potential for great nicknames, and is familiar but not super common. It’s gorgeous and it means something similar to ‘powerful angel,’ which is awesome.
Biblical, tons of wonderful namesakes and cute nicknames like [name_m]Abe[/name_m] and [name_m]Bram[/name_m]. Not very common but not tooo crazy at all. A softer boys name.
Sweet [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is [name_u]French[/name_u] braids in a field of tall grass, twirling among the butterflies and moths and ant hills. She’s so gentle, so stunning-- tons of built in nicknames ([name_f]Dilly[/name_f] is my favorite).
Emmaretta is an intriguing longer name from which you can derive the more popular Emma or Etta, bursting with nickname possibilities while still having a lovely sound by itself! Saying it aloud and listening to every syllable flow off the tongue reveals its similarities to other more elaborate girl names yet also shows its own distinctness. A feminine, princess-like name but not frilly.
Irene is so sleek and smart! It’s literary (via [name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] [name_m]Holmes[/name_m]), of course. [name_u]Fierce[/name_u] yet feminine, [name_f]Irene[/name_f] sounds like a perfectly strong and underrated name that wears equally well on a Victorian lady and a spunky 21st-century girl. It ages magnificently, too – perfectly fitting for a playful little girl and a classy woman. It’s tailored and, therefore, never an over-the-top choice, but still unexpected enough today that it won’t feel boring or dated. All in all, I’d say [name_f]Irene[/name_f] is a vintage gem ready for revival!
First off, [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] has some wonderful nickname possibilities! [name_f]Emme[/name_f]/Emmie, [name_f]Em[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], [name_u]Mel[/name_u], [name_f]Mellie[/name_f]…[name_m]How[/name_m] can you possibly go wrong? But it’s also stunning as a full name. It has just the right amount of letters to give it that sophisticated princess vibe, but is also booksmart and down to earth- elegant, refined, and with endless creative potential! It’s unique enough that there won’t be five Emmelines in her class, but not completely obscure. Definitely a wonderful name.
Beatrice is one of those sweet-spot names that’s classic and widely recognizable, but so underused. I hear it pretty often on the forums but much less frequently in real life. It has soft sounds but feels bright and strong, and it also has the most wonderful meaning–“she who brings happiness/blessed”. Plus [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is one of the sweetest nicknames out there, and I also love the idea of [name_f]Betsy[/name_f]/Betty!
Matilda is gorgeous! It may be ssociated with the character, but what an amazing character for little ones to look up to! It’s got such a classic and sweet sound, with nickname opportunities like [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]/Mattie/Millie/Tilda. It sounds nice both for a little girl and a grown woman, and it’s easy to pronounce. Also, UK names seem to be very adored right now, so it’s got that going for it. It’s a wonderful name.
So beautiful! [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u] is definitely a middle name to me- it fits right in with my middle name style of [name_u]Nightingale[/name_u], Wildrose, and [name_u]Foxglove[/name_u]. Right now I love [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u], but it also seems to fit with [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and the like. It makes me thing of a lacy light blue-purple flower that may or may not be what it actually looks like . Meanwhile, [name_u]Lark[/name_u] is free and graceful. It fits with the same style of names as [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u] in my eyes, and I can just picture a girl who loves nature and is thoughtful- [name_u]Larkspur[/name_u] is quieter and more introverted than [name_u]Lark[/name_u], while [name_u]Lark[/name_u] is more adventurous. I would shy away from using it as a first, but I am obsessed with them as middles!
I’m gonna do [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] again because I still want some more reassurance !
Sophie is so versatile! Classic? Yep. Modern? Yep. Stylish? Grounded? Easygoing? Absolutely. It’s simple in a perfect way, blending in yet having enough distinct character not to become generic. Like a string of pearls! It’s sweet and strong and anything you could want its bearer to be.
