It just occurred to me that I don’t know a lot of people’s middle names. My [name]SIL[/name] has two, I think, though they may be hyphenated.

In my community (SE [name]India[/name]) it is quite common for each of several relatives/close friends to bestow a unique name on a child, and these names are considered “middle” names. The most I’ve witnessed was 10 middle names, but 5-7 are more typical. Quite a nice tradition, and some very beautiful names.

That sounds like such a lovely tradition!

The most I’ve known personally is three, but - and it’s quite shameful that I know this - Jedward have four middle names each. That’s TEN names their parents thought of! [name]Even[/name] stranger is :

  1. One of them has [name]Kevin[/name] as a middle name … which is also the name of their older brother (thanks Wikipedia). So nice they used it twice?

  2. The names are all really ordinary. You’d think if someone were going all out with the amount of middles, they’d get a bit creative with the names themselves, too …

My great-grandfather was [name]Kristian[/name]-[name]Sebastian[/name] Stefanus Motzveldt Eide. My great-great grandfather was [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Immanuel[/name] [name]Augustus[/name] Plack. Other than the royal family, those are the most I know.

I met a girl named [name]Celeste[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] once, I thought it was a beautiful name.

The most I’ve ever heard is 2 :frowning: I know a [name]Megan[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Raine[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name] [name]Freya[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and a [name]Philippa[/name] [name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Love[/name]!)

However, I was reading through the [name]London[/name] Birth Announcements a couple of weeks ago, and I saw a [name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Louise[/name] [name]Josephina[/name] [name]Saskia[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]. Whilst they are all lovely names, I think it’s definitely a little bit much!

My great-great-great grandmother’s name was [name]Mollie[/name] [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Nancy[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] Inman-Binam. (3 middle names!) She was really the odd one out of the family, as everybody else that I know of had (or has) only one middle name.

My great-grandmother had four; that’s the most I’ve heard. I can only remember two, though–[name]Cary[/name] (her first name) Mariea [name]Ophelia[/name]. The other two I don’t remember.
