I have just heard of mass shooting in [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Colorado[/name] this week…[name]How[/name] awful! We had decided on [name]Aurora[/name] as the name for our little girl due later in the year. I have loved this name since I was a child! Is the name forever associated with massacre though now due to events in [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Colorado[/name] this week…What do you berry’s think?
No! I was dreading this might come up. Please don’t discard [name]Aurora[/name] because of the shooting. [name]Aurora[/name] is a beautiful name and [name]Aurora[/name], CO is a beautiful place. Neither should be defined by the evil acts of one sick individual.
I hope not, but for me, it’s a little soon to know.
I think the deciding factor will be what people call this years from now…will [name]Aurora[/name] be part of it like [name]Columbine[/name], which did really affect how I’d feel about using [name]Columbine[/name] as a name, gorgeous flower that it is, or do people remember “[name]Colorado[/name] movie theatre massacre” or something else that will be coined in the coming days/weeks/years.
I hope it doesn’t impact the name! [name]Aurora[/name] is lovely.
I heard about that tragedy as well, and my heart goes out to the victims, their friends and family, and the entire community in [name]Aurora[/name], CO. I hope the name isn’t tainted by association; it would be such a shame for [name]Aurora[/name] to be put in the attic with [name]Columbine[/name].
i don’t think it matters. I don’t want to be rude, it was a horrible thing that happened. I just don’t think it’s going to be remembered like columbine was because it was one of the “first” shootings. I think [name]Aurora[/name] is safe to use.
I think [name]Aurora[/name] is a beautiful name, if you like it then use it.
My heart goes out to the victims.
My family and I were talking about this recently. My brother-in-law made a good point in that there have been incidents in [name]Madison[/name], Wisconsin and that hasn’t tainted the popularity of that name.
It might be nice for your daughter to have a nickname to fall back on (I.e. [name]Rory[/name]) in case it does become an issue (which i don’t think it will)
I think [name]Aurora[/name] goes too far back and has too many pleasant associations (Sleeping Beauty, goddess) to be discarded. The recent tragedy wouldn’t affect my using it unless I lived in CO.
[name]Aurora[/name]'s fine to use, if anything, if anyone comments on it just say it’s a slight honor to the heroic actions that took place in the theatre that night.
Such as the 13 year old [name]Kaylan[/name] trying to save a 6 year old’s life, and the many men who died saving their girlfriends and their siblings.
Focus on the positive sides to the name [name]Aurora[/name], don’t let it be tainted by the sick actions of a man.
This is a brilliant point! I don’t think [name]Aurora[/name] will be used like [name]Columbine[/name].
People don’t even really refer to it solely as [name]Aurora[/name] Movie Massacre, they say [name]Colorado[/name], or The Dark [name]Knight[/name]/Batman. I think the name will be safe, but only time will tell.
I think it should be okay, I’ve only heard it referred to as the Movie Theatre Massacre or the [name]Colorado[/name] Shootings, no references to [name]Aurora[/name] here.
Its a little too soon to tell though, only with time will we know.
