the name FELIX

hi there
i fell in love with [name]Felix[/name] long time ago… we are now expecting in [name]April[/name] 2010, we won’t be finding out the sex,and we have our girl name down, but for a boy I really like [name]Felix[/name]. My partner says it’s ‘ok’ but agrees with others when their reply is “[name]FELIX[/name]?! thats a [name]CAT[/name]!”
i think our generation is really the last that knows about felix the cat, the cartoon, and (ive never heard this before…) that there is some reference to felix the cat, and pornographic, i have no idea what that is referring to,
i simply love the name because its unique, but not too crazy and it is from the early 1900s, i fell in love with it from my fave tv show, road to avonlea
other names we like include henry, arlo, milo…
but im still searching for others, i though it would be easy and one would just ‘pop’ out and stick, but im afraid that wont be the case… ive searched endlessly…
other names we like but are taken by friends already include; jasper and augustus ‘gus’

any thoughts, suggestions?

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Felix[/name] and I only have vague memories of [name]Felix[/name] the cat. As far as a pornographic connection, I’ve never heard of it.

I agree with you and think it’s unique without being unfamiliar. [name]Felix[/name] sounds friendly and smart, great qualities for any guy!

I say go for it. Any cultural hangups are fading fast.

I’m 24 and if other people wouldn’t have said “felix the cat” I never would have thought of it on my own. I know my 15 yr old sister has NO CLUE about [name]Felix[/name] the cat. (I’m a huge movie buff though, so I think of the Odd Couple and [name]Jack[/name] [name]Lemon[/name]'s character, but I SO SO love that movie that I don’t find it a bad connection. Then again, [name]Felix[/name] the cat isn’t a bad connection either) I also have NO CLUE about the porn reference…

I love [name]Felix[/name]. I think it is spunky and fun with a touch of exotic. I don’t think you can go wrong with it.

I love [name]Felix[/name] as well!

I think you should go for it - no one is going to associate your child with the cat once they have his adorable little face to associate with it!

I like [name]Felix[/name] too! It does make think of the cat but I don’t really remember the cartoon, so that name must have just stuck in my mind. BUT I really think once I know a little boy named [name]Felix[/name], that will disappear, just as PP said.

I really like [name]Felix[/name] a lot, and for what it’s worth, I don’t think of a cat when I hear the name.

Good luck!

I like the name [name]Felix[/name] and got the same reaction from my husband and mother that you did.

I think it is a fun and friendly name and none of the children a little [name]Felix[/name] goes to school with is going to know anything about [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] or The Odd Couple.

its getting a lot more popular and may soon lose its ‘cat’ association.

my cousin was just named this, (hes almost 2), apparently its more common in australia, europe etc.

GO FOR IT! its spunky and will be great.

thanks for your suggestions! yes we really want to keep to our european roots, we are both from europe (czech republic, and holland)
we also really like [name]MILO[/name] and [name]HENRY[/name]

so hard to decide, i think it will come to us when (if its a he!) comes!

and for ‘felix’ ive been liking the spelling without an ‘x’
and spelling it [name]FELIKS[/name] or FELICHS or FELICS

Ooooo, I actually like Felics! I recognize that spelling from somewhere too… I’m sure I’ve seen it spelt like that before.

Okay…I read this a while ago and was trying to put together the pornography reference to the name [name]Felix[/name] as I was sure I knew what it was somewhere in the back of my mind. Today I was reading the nameberry blog (Lost boys names of 1880’s) and it hit me. [name]FRITZ[/name] the [name]CAT[/name] is what people are thinking of, not [name]Felix[/name].
From Wikipedia:
“[name]Fritz[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] is a 1972 animated film written and directed by [name]Ralph[/name] Bakshi as his feature film debut. Based on the comic strip of the same name by [name]Robert[/name] Crumb, the film was the first animated feature film to receive an X rating in the United States. It focuses on [name]Fritz[/name] (voiced by [name]Skip[/name] Hinnant), an anthropomorphic feline in mid-1960s New [name]York[/name] City who explores the ideals of hedonism and sociopolitical consciousness. The film is a satire focusing on American college life of the era, race relations, the free love movement, and left- and right-wing politics. [name]Fritz[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] was the most successful independent animated feature of all time, grossing over $100 million worldwide.”

I love [name]Felix[/name]! I really fought for that name, but my husband wouldn’t go for it. It doesn’t matter now b/c we just found out we are having a girl, but I still [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Felix[/name]. I know exactly who [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] is and the association doesn’t bother me at all because I adore the name. Good [name]Luck[/name]!

[name]Felix[/name] is lovely! I prefer it spelt with the ‘x’ at the end, though, I think. (: Anyhow, [name]Felix[/name] is a handsome name; I wouldn’t mind too much about the whole ‘[name]Felix[/name] the cat’ connections, nor the other; especially considering everyone else (myself included) hasn’t an idea about it! I also think of [name]Felix[/name] from [name]Anne[/name] [name]Rice[/name]'s Vampire Chronicles. Wonderful name. I also love [name]Henry[/name].

[name]Felix[/name] is one of my top names for a boy. I do get the [name]Felix[/name] the [name]Cat[/name] reference, but it doesn’t bother me. And a porn reference? I have no idea.

But yeah, I love it!
