Interesting way of getting to the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] but can’t seem to like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m], [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], etc. [name_u]Finley[/name_u] is probably the best traditional option I had found, although not even that one totally satisfies me.

I love place names that are not commonly used for people (such as [name_u]Holland[/name_u], [name_f]Vienna[/name_f], [name_u]Harlem[/name_u], and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]), especially if they can also be seen as variants of traditional names ([name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]/[name_f]Sienna[/name_f], [name_m]Harlan[/name_m]/[name_u]Harley[/name_u], [name_m]Casper[/name_m]), and I think Finland touches on both points! I might have just found my new favorite long version for [name_u]Finn[/name_u], so thank you for posting this!

No problem! I’m glad you liked it

to me, this name sounds crazy , but that is just me …

Have you ever been to Finland? What do you know about Finnish culture?

My father was born and raised in Finland and I spent most of my summers there. So…I guess I know enough about Finnish culture.

I second this, you shouldn’t use a country name if you have no connection to that country or know very little about their culture.

[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: I just saw your post explaining the connection - I still personally am not a fan, but since it has meaning to you, I guess it could work?

Personally place names are nms but if you have a personal connection it may work.

To be honest, I think it’s silly. If you are half Finnish and you want to name with that connection in mind, I think using a Finnish name is a much better idea than literally using the English name of the country, assuming you know some Finnish and can therefore be confident with pronunciations.

I would use it, but ONLY as a middle. It isnt terrible as a first name, you can use the nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u] if you, but i think its better as a middle.

Haha, I wouldn’t really name my kid ‘Finland’ (Plus, I’m not expecting), but I thought it was a cute name…At first. Perhaps I would use the name if I were an egotistical celebrity, but, gladly, I’m not. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear your opinions though!
