I adore the spelling and the sound of it, but i have this troubling feeling that it’s too rare or too weird to be used as a first name. What do you think?
Kindred as a girl’s first name? Yes or no?

Hm. I’m not really sure what to think. It’s interesting and sounds nice, but I imagine you (and she) will have to explain her name to a lot of people throughout her life (why and how you came up with it, and to some, what it means). Have you thought of nicknames? (Like Kinney, maybe?)
It gets stuck in my mouth a little when saying it, and all I can think of is ‘kindred spirit’ so it might be a little strange, but I think it could work. Reminds me of the boy name [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] honestly.
I’m not a very big fan of it, it seems a little too out there for my liking. It also sounds similar to [name_f]Kendra[/name_f], imo.
While I think the sound of the name is fine! I’ll be honest the name gives me a creepy vibe. To me it feels like it would make a good name of a cult, or the evil creatures in a horror film. I don’t know why, maybe there is some show that uses this term, but that’s my impression
I absolutely love it as a middle. For a first, I’m hesitant- I think it could work, but because it doesn’t really sound like any name and lacks an accessible nickname, I’m not entirely sure.
I second Namenculture- it works better for a middle. Although I think that the nn Kin would work- my niece is Makinlee (please ignore the ridiculous spelling) and goes by Kin.
I’ve never heard it, but I like it! It’s kind of like an unusual virtue name; I’d be so intrigued by a person named Kindred!
The first thing that I thought of was a nod to [name_f]Anne[/name_f] Of [name_u]Green[/name_u] Gables, namely with [name_f]Anne[/name_f]'s search for “kindred spirits”. Not sure if that association was made by any other people or would bother you, but that’s what I think of. I would personally prefer an alternate name, like [name_f]Kinsey[/name_f]/[name_f]Kinzie[/name_f], [name_u]Kenzie[/name_u], [name_f]Kendra[/name_f], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u], etc.
I think it would be a very sweet middle name. I wouldn’t use it as a first. I have heard much worse, so if you adore it, go of it, but for me it misses the mark.
My first inclination was to dislike it, but I couldn’t come up with a reason why. The sound is nice and as others have noted, not unlike other well-used names such as [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m], and my only association is with [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of green gables “kindred spirits” which is a lovely way to describe friendship. As an uncommon name it will always raise eyebrows, but I think this name could actually wear quite well.
I just see Dread. The -dred being like ‘dread’ is why I really dislike [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. It just sounds so bad imo.
My first thought was it’s similar to [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] which is a very harsh name imo. I’m trying to like it, but I’m still not sure. Maybe I could see it working as the middle. Still thinking about it as the first…
