The name Sunshine

Hey berries! My husband and I found out on [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] that we are expecting! I am crossing my fingers for a girl (although a 3rd boy would be just fine!) and since the second we found out, of course, I’ve been brainstorming baby names! [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is a name we have loved [name_u]FOREVER[/name_u]. We’ve discussed it with every baby and we do love it. My only concern is that I think it is too nicknamey. I’d like a full name for it. I don’t like [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] as a full name. [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] is nice but, I’m afraid she will hate it as an adult. Thoughts? Thanks!

[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] on it’s own is infinitely better than [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] and also really cute. A few suggestions: [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], anything -son, [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Summer[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] maybe, [name_f]Sonoma[/name_f], [name_f]Sonora[/name_f] (love this), and maybe [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] but it’s a stretch.

[name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] seems very childish to me for some reason. I actually think it’s even less professional sounding than [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. I find it very cutesy and a bit unsuitable for an adult, especially with your other children’s more formal names.

However, I think it’s fine as a nickname. I don’t think you even need a similar formal name. Children are the sunshine of their parents lives, so I think you could name her [name_u]Max[/name_u] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or anything else and call her [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]/[name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] if you wanted.

I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] could be fine as a FN, but not [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f].

I like the direction otri was going. More suggestions, including names with a connection to sun some where in the meaning:
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f]
[name_f]Solange[/name_f]
[name_f]Solana[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]

I think [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] are my favs!

I think it’s totally okay to use [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] on its own. You could also use [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] in the middle spot. Or maybe you could use the name [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]?

I also second [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], or [name_f]Sonora[/name_f]. But if you’re not going to choose those names, I’d just go with [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] over [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f]. Although it reminds me of [name_u]Sonny[/name_u]…I know two guys named [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] and I always think of ‘here ya go, sonny’ like an elderly man saying it…

Still, [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is much better than [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f], or choose a gorgeous names like [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] nn [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].

[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is lovely!

[name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is a cute nn, but not as a whole name. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f] is a stripper name… sorry… not a fan of sunshine as a name at all.

I know a really cute girl called [name_u]Sunny[/name_u]. It’s a stand alone name and doesn’t need a longer form. I also like [name_f]Summer[/name_f].

Thank you for your suggestions! I love the suggestion of [name_f]Summer[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] but it’s not really usuable because it’s a popular razor brand and that’s all I can think of. Lol Thanks again

I know someone named [name_f]Alisun[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] would be a great nickname for that alternate spelling. I love the name [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] too!

This is a great idea! Any -son name would work: [name_f]Alison[/name_f], [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], etc. I don’t think you even need to change the spelling.
