The name that's evading me

Hello! I’m trying to name one of my more central characters but no matter what I do, nothing fits. Some characters just enjoy watching you struggle.

The story takes place in the future. The character is an older teenager who is intelligent, especially with politics and different cultures. She is naive when it comes to relationships and takes on a younger sister roll to my main character, although she is a year older. She’s pretty in the curvaceous way and has stunning hair. She is one of the most innocent and nicest characters in the story but retains a wiser feeling if your conversation treads into her domain. She is also going to be stubborn because of the time it has taken to name her…

The only name I’ve really considered is Muffy and I didn’t like it for several reasons. [name]One[/name] is because it reminds me of [name]Effie[/name] Trinket. It also doesn’t seem very futuristic to me, along with some other reasons. Thanks for any suggestions!

Also on a side note, which do you prefer as a name: Becks [name]Law[/name] or Becks Hartin?

Have you tried thinking about her parents, what THEY would name her? A significant place to them in your story, a name from a different culture, some kind of ‘ancient’ family name? That kind of things gives a nice amount of depth.

Oh, and Becks [name]Law[/name].

I like [name]Sylvie[/name], it has a nice feel but I’m not sure if it fits perfectly. The character is born in present day [name]Canada[/name] and the children are normally named after the parents’ inspirations upon seeing their child. “Muffy” has red hair but I wasn’t sure with doing a red inspired name because I feel it has been overdone with certain names. The place she is born is also very culturally diverse.

Hmm… Any words you like in other languages? Maybe they could be inspired by hearing someone speaking in another language.

The name Poppy makes me think of red hair. It might not be too overdone? If you think redhead names are too obvious, you could do something based off the character’s eye color for an “inspired upon seeing her” name?

And I prefer Becks Hartin.

I’d do something like [name]Lorelai[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name], and when I think of Muffy I think of Muffy from the TV show [name]Arthur[/name]. Also, are the options for the title? If so, probably Becks [name]Law[/name]. If not, Becks Hartin.

Oh, I adore [name]Lorelai[/name]! The options are not for the title, it’s for the name for a main character. His full first name is Beckminster but he goes by Becks mostly.
