The name vintage

My sister is in love with the name Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. She loves vintage things, rustic things, etc. I think it’s very cute… and very unique.

What do you think?

I don’t think it will change her mind if you don’t, but I’m just curious. I think Vintage isn’t any weirder at [name_f]Agnus[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], Xaria, etc.

Pretty clunky, but I love the name Kindred, but I’d only use it as a middle. Both Vintage and Kindred are consonant heavy. Of course I like Kindred better.

Personally I’m not a fan.
I think it’s more weird because Vintage is a word, I’ve never been a fan of word names that are words that are used regularly. So names like [name_u]Ever[/name_u], [name_u]True[/name_u], [name_f]Heaven[/name_f], Tomorrow, [name_u]Story[/name_u] etc have never been my style.

A bit literal for me.

I like word names, generally, but for me nouns work better than adjectives. With Vintage, it sounds like you’re describing whatever comes after (i.e., the middle or last name) as “vintage.”

Also not a fan purely from a sound standpoint. But it’s certainly bold and unusual—and most people should be able to spell it!

Honestly? I think it sounds absurd. Like naming your kid Antique or Stylish.

I’m not a fan  It’s one of those words that doesnt translate well into a name.

Ridiculous name. No woman wants to be called Vintage. It’s not even a pretty word.

Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is pretty but Vintage is a heavy name to give anyone. It boxes a child in a corner.

Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds like a paint color or lipstick.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] because it evokes pretty imagery does not mean a girl will love being referred to as “Vintage” her whole life!
And think how disastrous it will be when that little baby named Vintage becomes an old woman. Her name will be a running joke. I really hope your sister changes her mind for her daughter’s sake. [name_m]How[/name_m] would she like being named Vintage?

I don’t like it at all. I’m not a huge fan of most word names (there are a few exceptions), but I don’t think Vintage works at all. Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] does sound like a paint color, too. It wouldn’t age well at all. There aren’t even any good nicknames for Vintage, because [name_u]Vinnie[/name_u] sounds like a nickname for [name_m]Vincent[/name_m].

Yeah, that’s not very flattering, considering the meaning. I also don’t think the syllables are very pleasant sounding either. I don’t think it works as a name at all.

Thank you for your comments. I am not showing my sister these comments; I just wanted to see for myself. I do see how it could be a distaste, but I honestly hate so many ‘old lady’ names and weird names and find them rather putrid. Like I could imagine a 80 year old [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], but not a newborn [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. So, to each their own. The nickname would be Vinty. She liked Vintage {Vinty} [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or Vintage {Vinty} [name_f]Mae[/name_f]. I doubt she will use it. She’s a teen who will probably change her mind on names.

Vintage, inappropriate? [name_m]How[/name_m] about other word names? Holy, [name_m]Cove[/name_m], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_f]Afternoon[/name_f], [name_m]Arrow[/name_m], [name_u]Bliss[/name_u], etc? Those are inappropriate?

I don’t think Vintage works well as a name, but I think that about a lot of the word names that people use that have become somewhat of a thing.

It sounds like a cool book or movie title, but is just a bit too much  I’m not generally a word name fan…I still consider ones like [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_u]Story[/name_u], and [name_u]Poet[/name_u] too out there, but I like others like [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_m]Cove[/name_m]…so it’s just a matter of opinion.

Personally, I think finding a name that is vintage or “period” sounding (like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], for the Victorian period) would be better and more wearable for the potential child.

She likely will change her mind on names, though the name I fell in love with when I was 16 is now a feisty 4 1/2-year-old.

And I had her when I was 27, so I had plenty of time to fall out of love with it.

I’ve been on name forums for six years, and Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is – with absolutely zero hyperbole – the worst name I have ever heard.

Some people can be so dramatic (not your sister, but some of these commenters). There have been people bestowed with far worse names than Vintage and we all know it.

All that said, I would never use it, and I like some unusual and word names (but I like some of all kinds of names). So yeah, could be worse, but isn’t the best choice either because of a number of reasons.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a note, Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] reminds me of wine. That’s just what I think of, though. As for the name itself, I recently met a [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] so nothing is too odd nowadays! It sounds slightly clunky but I could see it as a fun middle name.

Maybe she would like a name with a ‘vintage’ feel - [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] & [name_f]Thea[/name_f] spring to mind.

I agree with this.

I personally would not use vintage as a name but feel Vintage [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is actually pretty gentle, tame compared to some names I have seen on NB. I also feel that calling it inappropriate is in the eye of the beholder. I actually feel some NB favs and other names in people’s signatures could be inappropriate.
