I have always loved very classic, sophisticated names. Not the overly popular ones, yet all the names on my lists used to be rather common.
Now, after being a nameberry for a few weeks I’m starting to feel like I’m becoming more and more open-minded in terms of my naming style. I’ve come across so many stunning name combos in this forum and I’m having so much fun learning about the origins and meanings of all these names.
I’d love to see what you guys think about my latest girls name crushes! [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to leave comments and further suggestions below, fellow berries!
First of all, there is [name_f]Reeva[/name_f]. Such a beautiful, very elegant, yet also fresh and uncommon (to me).
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u]
Then I’ve also come across Liel … and fell in love instantly.
Liel [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Zarah[/name_f] Liel
Also, [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]! It’s not like i’ve never heard that name before but I feel like I’ve never really paid attention to it. Now that I did I think it’s just gorgeous!
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_u]Bell[/name_u]
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
Last but not least: [name_f]Calla[/name_f]. What a stunner!
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] Mielle
I think [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] is pretty, but nothing that I’m totally wowed by. [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is nice.
[name_m]How[/name_m] is Liel pronounced? Is it [name_m]Ly[/name_m]-el or Leel?
I like [name_f]Zarah[/name_f] Liel, but prefer it spelled [name_f]Zara[/name_f].
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is a total no-go for me. First of all, I have never found it to be an attractive-sounding name, but also… the allergy medicine. Nope.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] is gorgeous! I love it. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is pretty, and while I find [name_f]Marie[/name_f] to be beautiful, it’s oh-so-filler in the middle name spot. However, it’s still much preferred over Mielle due to too many L’s.
I definitely know what you mean about the Nameberry effect! I have a very distinct style of names that I gravitate towards and not everyone in my real life are on board, but they go over swimmingly on this site. It does give me that extra little confidence that someone will appreciate my tastes.
As for your names listed, none are my style, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f]–Eh. I think I like this one best. It sounds very international and something like [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is fairly cute. I think you could definitely pair it with siblings like [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Indie[/name_f], and [name_u]Arlo[/name_u].
Liel–[name_m]How[/name_m] is this pronounced. I figure either [name_m]Ly[/name_m]-el or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-el or Leel? Either way, not a fan of this. It sounds fairly masculine rather than soft and feminine.
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]–Yeah, no. With the allergy commercial and the medicine so popular, it would be rather silly to name your daughter [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. Kids will find ways to tease all children on their names, but handing schoolyard bullies a built-in joke and target? Not okay. I would suggest: [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], [name_f]Angelina[/name_f], [name_f]Angelica[/name_f] instead
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]–Eh. I really don’t like this name. A friend of mine has this on her list (with the intentions of calling her [name_u]Cali[/name_u]) and I just can’t stand it. I just don’t find it all that cute or appealing. As for [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], I vote no. [name_f]Marie[/name_f] itself is a fine name, but because it’s been used as a filler middle name for years it’s so worn out and tired. Anything with [name_f]Marie[/name_f] as the middle name does not feel fresh or new, no matter the name. It’s a total cop out to use [name_f]Marie[/name_f] unless you have strong ties.
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] it. I knew a [name_f]Riva[/name_f] spelled this way and I always found her name striking in its simplicity.
Liel - Eh. I see the appeal, but there’d be definite pronunciation issues. You might also like [name_f]Ciel[/name_f].
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name. I know an [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], and pretty much the second I met her I stopped thinking of the allergy medicine when I heard this and now my first (and really only; I sometimes forget about the medicine’s existence–and I used to take it, lol) association when I hear it is her. I totally disagree with the melodramatic comment above; even if it is people’s first association, an allergy medicine isn’t exactly bullying material. I think the “they’ll be bullied” argument is mostly silly anyway; kids these days don’t bat an eye at unusual names. My elementary-aged brothers have friends named [name_m]Nixon[/name_m], [name_m]Dyson[/name_m], and [name_m]Bruno[/name_m]-X@vier.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] - Another name that’s both simple and pretty. The nature association is a definite plus, too.
I think [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] is stunning but [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] Steenkamp immediately comes to mind - girlfriend of [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] Pistorius who was shot dead. It’s the only time I’ve ever heard the name to be honest. [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is pretty, but I can’t get on board with [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]Lake[/name_u] as [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] is very close to the name [name_u]River[/name_u].
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_f]Carys[/name_f], [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f] maybe?
Liel is interesting but I’m not entirely sure on the pronunciation.
[name_f]Allegra[/name_f] is stunning! [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_f]Snow[/name_f] and [name_f]Allegra[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] are beautiful.
I don’t like [name_f]Calla[/name_f], seems a trendy name to me.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your names! [name_f]Calla[/name_f] especially I find stunning. I would avoid pairing it it [name_f]Marie[/name_f] though… Calamari anyone?
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: also, I just noticed that you already have a [name_f]Klara[/name_f]. I would probably rule out [name_f]Calla[/name_f] then because of its similarity with [name_f]Klara[/name_f], it would just get too confusing I think.
[name_f]Reeva[/name_f] really caught me by surprise! I love it [name_f]Reeva[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is a sweet combo.
I’m not crazy about Liel or [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Alegria[/name_f] just a tiny bit. I really love the name [name_f]Zara[/name_f], without the H.
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] is a beautiful, unique, nature/flower name. Its very attractive. However I agree with pp. [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] = Calamari!
I love [name_f]Allegra[/name_f]. It’s too bad they named the allergy pill that I’ve moved on to [name_f]Athena[/name_f] myself. [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Althea[/name_f] and [name_f]Pandora[/name_f] have the same feel maybe too. The Nameberry effect is real! My top boys names were [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_u]Riley[/name_u] before joining.
