The Names of My Children

My children were all adopted, but instead of giving them ethnic names, I gave them names that I liked and have always wanted my children to have. Being a name nerd, it was difficult to name my children because there are so many to chose from. But luckily, my husband was very indifferent about names so he agreed with whatever I came up with.
At the time, I was interested in cute, unique names that sound like they should be very popular but really aren’t.

My first daughter was named [name]Calista[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. I love Greek Mythology, and I knew that [name]Callisto[/name] was the name of a very beautiful nymph. When I found out that [name]Calista[/name] was a real name, I was over joyed. Her name means “beautiful one”, and I loved that. We call her [name]Cali[/name] at home. Her middle name was actually quite generic, at the time I wasn’t interested in making a huge deal out of the middle name. Now, of course, I’d rather go with something like [name]Calista[/name] [name]Seraphine[/name] [name]Rose[/name], but [name]Marie[/name] is simple and easy to pair up.

My first son is [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. He was named after two very special people in my life, and I thought that is was a good way to honor them. [name]Gabriel[/name] is also the name of an angel, so I thought that the meaning was good as well. [name]Alexander[/name] was a name that I have always loved, but I thought [name]Gabriel[/name] matched [name]Calista[/name] quite well. We usually call him [name]Gabe[/name].

My second daughter’s name is [name]Gracelyn[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. I had just found the name [name]Gracelyn[/name] then, and I was absolutely in love with it. It was pretty, graceful, and elegant. Most of all, it was not very popular, which I was looking for at the time. It also paired up wonderfully with [name]Calista[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name], so that was also nice. [name]Claire[/name] was also a bit generic, but it is also the name of my cousin so I wanted to honor her. [name]Gracelyn[/name] goes by [name]Gracie[/name] most of the time.

And…I’m in the process of adopting a new son. His name is still being considered, as I currently am at a lost on what to name him. I know it has to begin with a C, because I have one C and two Gs, so I must make it even. It also has to have the hard C sound like in [name]Calista[/name]. It also has to have an obvious nickname, another pattern in my family. So far, I have [name]Camden[/name], [name]Cameron[/name], [name]Collin[/name], [name]Connor[/name], [name]Christopher[/name], and [name]Carson[/name]. Which one should I chose? And the middle name will be either [name]Daniel[/name] or [name]Joseph[/name].

Thanks,

[name]Lucy[/name]

[name]Hi[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]! I agree that you should use a C name, but I think you should further limit it to a C name with two-syllables. You have two children with three-syllable names ([name]Calista[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name]) and just one with a two-syllable name ([name]Gracelyn[/name]).

Here are some other suggestions!
[name]Carlow[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Carl[/name]
[name]Casper[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] nn [name]Cas[/name]
[name]Chadwick[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Chad[/name]
[name]Clayton[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] nn [name]Clay[/name]
[name]Cohen[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Coe[/name]
[name]Curtis[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Curt[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] nn [name]Cy[/name] or Rus

Good luck, [name]Lucy[/name]!

I love all of their names!

For your new addition… I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Camden[/name]. [name]Camden[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] would be perfect. You could call him [name]Cam[/name] or CJ … CJ is really cute. Good luck!

I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Camden[/name]- I love the nn [name]Cam[/name]. Another one to consider- [name]Conrad[/name].

[name]Cameron[/name] is my pick for first and definately [name]DANIEL[/name] for second name (only because that’s my son’s name :))

[name]How[/name] about [name]Campbell[/name] for your new son? [name]Cam[/name] for short.

Update:

I finally finished the entire adoption process a few weeks ago. It was faster than before, probably because its my fourth time around. So my new son was named [name]Camden[/name] [name]Joseph[/name], which my hubby loved because he was from New [name]Jersey[/name]. Thanks for everyone’s feedback! I now have [name]Cali[/name], [name]Gracie[/name], [name]Cam[/name], and [name]Gabe[/name].
