Men name their sons after themselves and their fathers for generations over, so I think it’s completely fine for you to use a beautiful name that just happens to be your middle name on your daughter.
I don’t think it’s pretentious at all—it’s not unheard of for women to pass down their names to their daughters, and men’s names are regularly passed down. If you have a personal aversion to honor names, then that’s a different matter, but I don’t think you should feel as if it’s strange or arrogant. Sounds like you really like the combo—keep it!
I think there’s a fine line between an honor name being something you wouldn’t really pick out otherwise, but “excusing” it due to tradition or sentimentality, and just genuinely loving a name. I definitely wouldn’t NOT consider it because of that.
I also don’t see anything wrong with considering a name because you wish it was your name. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t we kind of all? That’s what my mom did. I’d be more concerned with someone naming a child something they wouldn’t want to wear themselves.
Thank you everyone! These are all really good points
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] is so lovely! It will always remind me of To Kill A Mockingbird, my favourite classic. Pairing [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is not pretentious at all, in my opinion. I’d love to see it in your top 15.
I think it’s totally fine, but if you feel weird about it, maybe that’s telling you something. Some people may find it pretentious, but who cares what they think anyway?
FWIW, I think [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Elora[/name_f] is awesome too.
Passing down your name to your child is not pretentious or selfish. I wish this idea and those that believe it would go away.
Thank you everyone. These are great points and I’ll have to mull them over.
@mattyp i do really like [name_f]Elora[/name_f] too, so its definitely an option
@southern.maple sorry if asking if it was pretentious came across as rude/offensive
in anyway.
I think im going to add [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] to the list for now and see how i feel about it. [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] or [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] have been on my mind too, so we’ll have to see
Thank you all
I think [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] sounds great and I like it best out of your options! I think it’s fine if you share the same middle name…it is a lovely name!
