Accent in Amélie/Amelie?

  • Yes! AmĂ©lie is better
  • No, the Ă© would just cause too much trouble

It depends on where you live; some places/areas don’t even allow accent marks.

I’m in a very bilingual city in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], lots of [name_u]French[/name_u] around here! Accents are fine from a technical standpoint, I just wonder if they’d be a hassle in day-to-day life

I love it with the accent- plus, if it became too annoying, a girl could just drop in in every day life- school papers and stuff; and only use it on passports and things. Whereas if it starts without an accent, she’d just be ‘pretentious’ if she added an accent for flair.

I don’t think it would be much of a hassle, especially if you’re in a [name_u]French[/name_u] speaking area and it clarifies emphasis. I’m in the US, and some states don’t allow accent marks (our naming laws are very state by state), including places like [name_u]California[/name_u] where a third of the population is Hispanic, yet names with diacritical marks are not recognized.

It’s weird, if I met someone named mercy now I would probably think it was really weird but I’ve known a girl named mercy forever and it fits her really well, not the quality (she’s not exactly
merciful) but just the sound of it isn’t weird on her.

I wouldn’t be mad but I don’t love the name either. [name_m]Just[/name_m] neutral or a soft like like my own name

@EJpuddlejumper I love the fact that you love the name [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! It was on my top 20 girls’ list for a long time until [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_u]Paris[/name_u] took it over.
