Not me deciding that the character should go by their last name instead…

I thought so too! But after investigating it, I’ve seen it pronounced both ways, though I think rhyming with borrow is the more correct way, but both seem equally as common?

I am american and I would agree with this, that the first syllable of borrow pretty much rhymes with car. I personally instinctively pronounce Yarrow where the first syllable rhymes with car in an american accent.

Thanks for weighing in on the Yarrow pronunciation debate. I also just learned that it’s wheelbarrow, not barrel, that’s crazy! I realized borrow is a confusing word to use as a rhyming example, especially with different accents!

It seems like this is a name that would have some confusion around pronunciation but hopefully is easy to learn

After Zoe Sugg’s baby announcement, I’m left pondering how to pronounce Ottilie!

How do you pronounce Ottilie?

  • Ott-till-ee
  • Oh-till-ee
  • Aw-tillie
  • Julie, you’re clearly missing a pronunciation

It comes out more like awd-uh-lee though (voted for aw-tillie)

I really wish I liked it because it feels like it’d be right up my alley plus it’s the name of a character from one of my favorite show (she’s a super cool character too), but I just can’t get into it. Plus it was the name of my aunts dog that I grew up with so that association will always be there for me

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the name but it has a derogatory meaning in Russian so I can’t seem to get past that

Went with Ott-till-ee but I’m pretty sure “ott” and “awt” sound exactly the same for me? Also, I’m Midwestern, so the T’s probably sound more like D’s.

Also, @VivienaLunelle123, I’m not sure what to vote for the poll, because I love [name_f]Suki[/name_f] as a nickname, but dislike it as a full name.

She’s so cool! And I love the message of a strong female warrior who A.) doesn’t try to act like a guy, and B. Isn’t objectified!
