Would you pronounce Averill the same way you would pronounce Avril Lavigne’s first name? (**specifically her name as opposed to the French month if you would say them differently)
- Yes, they sound the same
- There’s a very slight difference
- Nope, different sounds

I know Avril Lavigne is not in the peak of her fame anymore, but I can’t help but wonder if an Averill would get ‘like Avril Lavigne?’ still – I think most people I know would probably say both names like “av-ruhl” or “av-rill”
ADD-ree, like the first syllable of adelaide or addition
avril is straight two syllables, with an unstressed last ril/ruhl → AV-ruhl
averill is three, with a clear last syllable → AV-uh-rill
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] on a girl reminds me of [name_f]Lady[/name_f] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]! The beautiful noblewoman during [name_u]Marie[/name_u] [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f] era which survived at the end, was beautiful and nice and close to the [name_f]Queen[/name_f] and wore masculine clothing as a knight and was fair and courageous from the anime “Rose of Versailles” (In my country, [name_f]Lady[/name_f] Oscar) name was [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]! It used to be very popular in the 80s here and many people know it, it was my mom and mine’s childhood I loved that anime and it inspired my love for history, anime and [name_u]France[/name_u] and things!

Wow I was the opposite [name_m]Canaan[/name_m] for Kay-nun and [name_m]Kanan[/name_m] for can-ann

I think the doubles A throws me off too much to read “naan” as “nin”, and because doubles As aren’t really a thing in [name_f]English[/name_f] words, it automatically makes me want to pronounce the Ca- sound closer to Kah- rather than [name_u]Kay[/name_u]- as the latter is a very [name_f]English[/name_f] sound (diphthong vowel)

I’ve always mentally pronounced [name_u]Averill[/name_u] as “ay-vril”
I don’t intentionally pronounce them the same, but they come out pretty similar when I speak. It’s kind of like how [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] are said the same.
