I’ve got so mention/suggest Magairlín (ma-gare-LEEN) here, too. The Irish word for ‘orchid’ !
ah-lah-GO-nah (emphasis on Go, not Ah; plus the Go is a closed O and not an open O, like the [name_u]French[/name_u] “Roux” or “Margaux”)
Shiloh
- Shiloh is better for a girl!
- Shiloh is better for a boy!
- I don’t like the name Shiloh!

Honestly compared to other bad characters in the Bible [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is nowhere near the worst, better than say [name_f]Jezebel[/name_f] or [name_u]Athaliah[/name_u]. [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is also another word for [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] flowers. I think it’s perfectly usable and have known multiple Christians with the name

I love both but overall I prefer the sound of [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but I prefer it spelled [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. For the ph spelling I prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]

Thank you, that’s reassured me!
Also…
Someone else had this same question on r/namenerds or something like that and somebody replied with this:
“Delilah in the Bible tarnished the name, but what if your daughter will be so filled with the [name_f]Holy[/name_f] [name_f]Spirit[/name_f] that [name_m]God[/name_m] redeems the name through her?”
I just thought that was super lovely!

Is it tacky to have two girls called Delilah and Ophelia?
Context…
Ophelia and Delilah are both in popular songs that were popular around the same time!
I love that both names have (really good!) songs related to them. However, is it weird that they both have songs that are often paired together?
- Yes, it is tacky!
- No, it’s not tacky!

This won’t sway my family’s decision, but just out of my own curiosity… would you rather name a kitten Milo or Dash?

This was super difficult because both [name_u]Milo[/name_u] and [name_u]Dash[/name_u] are sooo ridiculously cute for a kitty!

how odd would it be for me to use the irish spelling of a name (Méabh) that has an anglicized version (Maeve) when I don’t have any irish ancestry (and have plenty of english ancestry)? this would be as a middle name
- not odd—it’s enough to simply prefer the original spelling
- odd—you should reconsider using the name
- and I have more to say

the combo in question is mosaic méabh
I like the name a lot, just equally for all genders.
