[name_f]Hosanna[/name_f] is gorgeous, but I would definitely find it weird if a non-religious person used it on their child since the word is so embedded into Christianity (and Judaism, if I’m not mistaken?).

I voted no, but I don’t know what the relation is between the name and religion. I’m assuming it’s the name of someone in the bible, which generally isn’t weird with popular/familiar names, and I think the nickname Annie makes Hosanna feel more familiar (ie, not specifically religious).

I think of Hosanna and Hallelujah as quite similar (praising cries), which I think makes either of them very heavily associated with religion/the Bible.

I really only hear the word hosanna in hymns and ye olde Christmas carols!

I wouldn’t know either. It would feel a little strange to use a name that isn’t used (most likely) outside of religion if you’re not religious.

I chose [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] just because I’ve been thinking about her.

Typed this hours ago and forgot to press reply :skull:

Most biblical names I think are perfectly fine to use if you’re not religious but [name_f]Hosanna[/name_f] is so connected to religion it would feel weird to use it if you weren’t, similar to other religious (or similarly, Puritan) names like [name_m]Shadrach[/name_m], [name_f]Bathsheba[/name_f], [name_m]Absalom[/name_m], [name_f]Hephzibah[/name_f] etc

Yes.

[name_f]Hosanna[/name_f] is definitely one of those names you should stay away from if you’re not religious, in my opinion. It’s not even a Biblical name but a way of praising G-d. It would be weird and even slightly inappropriate to name your child a religious term that literally means “deliver us”.

Thoughts on name Tolliver Gray for a boy? :black_heart:

[name_f]Hosanna[/name_f] does feel a particularly strange choice if you’re not a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] or Jew. Especially with the meaning “Lord please save us” if you don’t believe in “the Lord” and salvation, that’s a very odd name to give a child

If you like Hosanna…maybe [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] (which can mean truth) or [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] (meaning Lily)
